To make matters worse, we're on the far eastern edge of the "dry side" of Washington, because as the winds move east from the Pacific ocean across Seattle and run into the Cascade Mountiains, they drop a majority of their water on that side. We're also called the "Dull Side".
For many years, right over the border into Idaho about 40 miles from Spokane was the national headquarters for the American Neo-Nazi Party and the Skinhead organization. That was for like 40 years until they lost all their land and finances to a mother/son couple who sued them for a bunch of **** violating their civil rights (amazingly the couple was white).

P.S. The city police force has lost a series of court cases involving police brutality and excessive force, the most recent involving the death of a gentleman who was known to be mentaly disabled. The city tried to make it out to be the victims fault - life sucked for them when the security footage surfaced showing the truth.
