I am no longer with Mongoose
Hi guys,
I just wanted to let you know that I have been made redundant from Mongoose today so my time as editor and creator of S&P is over. I have been involved in some way with every issue since conception, having taughtmyself magazine publishing in six weeks back in 2003.
Every issue has been a pleasure for me to be involved with, and as there wil be no final editorial from me I would just like to say a few words of thanks to a few people. Firstly my two assistant editors, Matt Sharpe and then Matt Thomason, who contributed hugely, particular once the magazine went into PDF format.
I'd also like to thank all my regular writers, particularly Alan Oliver, who kept me in articles without me ever having to chase for them.
I'll still be reading S&P but as one of you lot from now on.

Ted Chang, don't you know. And I'm not a moderator any more so don't even think about moaning to me.

Thanks Smithy. Some of my happiest times at the company have been knocking around with you lot at tournys and open days. I shall miss it, for sure.Greg Smith wrote:Oh, good lord. I'm deeply sorry to hear that. You were like part of the furniture at Mongoose.![]()
Best of luck in finding new employment.
Oddly enough just the other day somebody emailed me in the studio and ended by saying how lucky I was to have one of the best jobs in the world, and for close on 5 years I reckon it was. Not often in life you get to work in your hobby, so I consider myself to have been fortunate.

Sorry to hear that Ian. As some one who also enjoys a job that osme would consider a hobby (and thus one that I also find very enjoyable) I can appreciate the sadness you must be feeling right now.
Thanks for your support in getting the various VAS articles into S&P. Does your departure also signal a downturn in MGP's interest in historical gaming?

There's certainly no downturn that I know of. Matthew is as keen as me about historical gaming and I'm looking forward to seeing World at War in print in particular.DM wrote:Sorry to hear that Ian. Ian, you will be truly missed. In every facet of MGP, you had a hand in it. You really took great care of the MI too and you always took the time to make sure everything was tip top. I was hoping one day we could meet at one of the cons but alas that will probably not happend now. So take care my friend and God bless you in your future endeavors.

It is sad news. It is not nice being made redundant from a job
(been there 6 times). Especially one which you love.
In my short time with Mongoose Events you have been the face of Mongoose and made all us newbies feel like part of the family. It would be nice to see you around at other events (some Call to Arms events maybe???). May even go as far as buying you a pint or three.
May all your die rolls be 6 6 crits.

Ian, it's been a real pleasure having you with us and great fun working with you at the E-C War event. You'll be missed and I hope we can see you in the odd event, only as a competitor this time
I wish you well for the future and hope you can find something that you love doing again!

It was an honour and a plesure dealing with you Ian, the only person who made me feal welcome @ the ECW.
For you mate.
Take my love.
Take my land.
Take me where I cannot stand.
I don’t care, I’m still free.
You can’t take the sky from me.
Take me out
to the black.
Tell ‘em I ain’t comin’ back.
Burn the land and boil the sea.
You can’t take the sky from me.
Have no place
I can be
Since I found Serenity.
But you can’t take the sky from me.
