Stargate RPG (yeah I know, again)

Postby Ulkesh » Sat Feb 02, 2008 7:28 pm

Since the last Stargate thread seems to have disappeared into the depths of the forum, I thought perhaps another one should be made. Especially after the recent season of Atlantis.

So what are the chances of the Stargate license being taken up by Mongoose? I know Alderac Entertainment had it for a bit but that was a while ago and I feel that the Stargate universe is a great RPG to make. I mean there are at least three series possibly along with a couple of movies.

So what can be made?
*10 Seasons of SG-1
*At least 5 Seasons of Atlantis
*A possible third series being made
*At least 3 movies that can be covered
*Several race source books covering the Goa'uld, Wraith, Asgard, Replicators, Earth along with an Ancient & Ori Fact book which mirrors the Babylon 5 Darkness and Light: The Vorlon and Shadow Factbook
*Fact books covering the races of the Milky Way and Pegasus galaxies
*Maps of the Milky Way and Pegasus galaxies
*Character fact book
*Starship fact book

Thats not counting original content as well.

So plenty of material to cover in such an RPG series.

Well IMHO there are 2 main hurdles to Mongoose producing the Stargat e RPG:

1) The licence was pulled from Alderac, AEG had at least one more supplement ready to print but couldn't renegotiate the licence.

2) Mongoose would alienate a lot of the existing player base if their new SG-1 RPG wasn't compatible with the old one.

There are those who wouldn't do the D20 version. (Me, for one.) So I passed simply based upon system mechanics (and the fact it never hit the bargain bin; I'll buy a d20 corebook for $3 just a s a read-through... as I did with B5 1e).

The D20 non magic material was generally superior to the magic D20 ones. I wouldn't buy it from Mongoose until after the next statement. I'd prefer the licence go back to AEG at least for them to produce that last product. I was looking forward to it!

What do you mean 3 movies? I've only ever seen the original movie that started it all.

I think he means the watchyamacall it, upcoming TV movies that have not been seen yet included in the same category/bracket as the original Theatre Motion Picture.

Mage has answered the question but just to elaborate, SG-1 are making two direct to dvd movies that are set in the universe they have created. The first movie is called Ark of Truth which finishes the Ori storyline and the second one is called Continuum. Both are not out yet but Ark of Truth will be the first of the two that will be coming out somewhat soon I think.

Im trying very hard to forget that ever existed  :P some nice elements that I would use to make a new setting in Stargate but beyond that...

Cannot really imagine an asgard going around really fast. Interesting to see how it pans out.

If you played fantasy style RPG games then the Asgard I think fulfill a very Mage-like class and make use of personal drones to help them in various fields... sounds interssting indeed.

well the video that they show does show the asguard walking naked like always, with a sword like object flying next to him.. some sort of mental magic or tech who knows...

so if that does well this might be a great time to bring that game back out of the scrap-heap... also due to the fact that Atlantis did win two peoples choice awards.. i think...

That sword-like object is one of the Asgard drones though I don't think we are told what duties they fulfil or what types there are. Hoefully, across the next couple of months, we will learn more.
