Well, that says you want something based off the 1980's TV series... rather than the 1940's serials or the 1930 comics... or the original novel.

"Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" is what Glen A Larson made after they told him he couldn't make "Battlestar Galactica" any more!
Or for more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buck_Roger ... th_Century
And it would make an EXCELLENT game!

Which was based upon the novel and the comics more than the TV show. VERY different properties.

Wikipedia says "The setting was active from 1988 until 1995." I imagine the licence has long since run expired. It was licenced by TSR; I seriously doubt that WotC has been paying on it all this time.

When WOTC acquired TSR, the License expired, since TSR's majority owner was the holder of the IP rights to the novels and comics. At least, according to TSR.

Then there's no reason why someone else can't pick up the licence.

I would wonder how 'tainted' that license is -- considering the perceived role Lorraine Williams (a scion of the family that owns the Buck Rogers property) played in the demise of TSR. If I remember correctly the game itself was not well received.

All the backstabby politics of the companies aside, I remember having a hell of a blast playing XXVc at school... I thought it was quite fun, and whatever version of the setting they used was much better than the TV show IMO. (though I did miss the twinkly stargates and the starfighters)

XXVc was loads of fun, and the novels that TSR published stood on their own as its own continuity. Buck Rogers himself featured only in the first trilogy. Other characters were featured in the other books. I still have them and the boxed set kicking around. A great set of adventures set in a Solar System which captured the pulp feel of the old serials. The original book was an entirely different animal altogether, though still an interesting read.

Is Buck Rogers even in copyright anymore? The usual term of Copyright is 75 years, and the stories were initially published in 1928.

28+67=95 years ... for anything pre 1978.

1928+95=2023 expected end of copyright on the novel.

See: http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap2.html

For post 1978, it's life+70 years.

All thanks to WEDCo (Disney)...
