Vaporized

Postby Jason-U-MTL-4 » Tue Apr 03, 2007 3:47 pm

Can we activate a clone back-up for a vaporized character? Or is a vaporized character gone for good?

Short answer: yes, you get a fresh clone after vaporisation.

Longer answer: You always get a fresh clone as long as you've got clones left (unless you've done something so amazingly treasonous that they delete you completely, or unless Alpha Complex is a smoking hole in the ground...)

Your DNA* is held on file** by CPU***, while your personality is backed up using MemoMax(TM)****, and updated wirelessly***** even in the case of vapourisation***** *. Upon death, a fresh clone is immediately***** ** decanted and dispatched***** ***, as per the terms of your Alpha Complex User Agreement***** ****.

*: Along with your ME Card date, tongueprint, iris pattern and shoe size
**: And never lost, ever.
***: Or the cheapest subcontractor
****: Implanted into your brain for your convenience
*****: Occasionally, network traffic may impede updates.
******: Ouch.
*******: More or less.
********: Sometimes by rocket!
*********: Not available at your security clearance.

Thank you!

Then, I suppose there isn't much difference between getting killed and getting vaporized... except for the Kewlness Factor (and, of course, loss of equipment)?

It is probably the equipment that caused it. . .

There's no difference between the two, aside from having less to loot from the body.

So much for your Official Teela-O-MLY Boxer Shorts.

Citizen msprange, are you unhappy with your equipment?

I had some trouble in the past where I was GMing a game where the players were so used to other (non-fun) rpgs, that they couldn't quite get the flow of the whole "terminate people in your party first chance you get" aspect so crucial to Paranoia. So, instead of throwing up my hands and moving on to a different (non-fun) rpg, I had The Computer feel that too much equipment was being wasted in the field. Therefore, all clone backups were required to retrieve the equipment off of their recently terminated clones. Also, allowing issued equipment on a dead clone to be damaged while awaiting the arrival of the backup was treason. So players were forced to loot the bodies of their deceased teammates. Now giving everything back to the backup was a different story. And what Red Troubleshooter in their right mind (then again, is any Troubleshooter in their right mind) would complain that he's missing his Yellow Clearance Binnoculars. This got the backstabbing going.

In regards to Vaporization...too bad. You should have been more careful, citizen. See how quickly a clone with no equipment becomes creative acquiring some. Make VAPORIZATION work for YOU, citizen!
