Including a list of inspirational sources.

Postby TrippyHippy » Sun Sep 06, 2015 9:43 am

Many gamers have a particular view about the style of science fiction represented by Traveller. To propagate the notion of Traveller being a bit more generic (notwithstanding The Third Imperium being a default setting), it may be a good idea to include an appendix that lists 'Inspiration Sources' - books, tv shows, movies, magazines, websites, etc.

Personally, I always find these useful in other core rule books.

Also don't forget video games - today's gamers might have well grown up on Mass Effect and STALKER in addition to Star Trek and Star Wars... (or Star Control 2 for my generation).

I would love to see such a list in the Traveller Companion. Suggested books, shows, movies, etc is always useful IMO.

Well, there a lot of good sources of inspiration in the 2300AD setting book as it stands, that could totally come over to Traveller main, and I totally agree with the notion of including online games and the like too. Or even other tabletop RPGs - like Transhuman Space, Cyberpunk or Star Wars too, perhaps.

Last good sci-fi movie I saw was Ex_Machina.

This will indeed be in the Companion now, due to your suggestions!

Happy to consider any suggestions of what to include in the list.

May I just suggest that people aren't currently listing books in the book list...just the Authors. Please list the books too! Anyhoo, don't forget Serenity in the movies!

Anyone else think Red Dwarf should be on the TV list?

Eh, probably need to toss Dave Webber on that list for the Honor Harrington series.
