Cool job.

Don't some shows get conned after the pilot or a couple eps in? Doesn't the lack of people watching trump contract specified dates?

Either way if it is a straight to video thing I hope they keep the same team, because these guys had a true passion for the subject material.
Yes, sometimes, sort, maybe. There is just so much to it that it would take many volumes of books to even attempt to get a handle on it.

Some shows get cancelled or moved to a poor time slot when exectives change over. Again many, many reasons as to the why then also.

Even more info, apparently 650,000 sold with half being blue ray. At $30 for DVD and $40 for Blueray, without discounts, the film has made an approximate total revenue of $22,750,000 from video sales. FROM ONE WEEK. Aka we might get a sequel! SQUEEEEEEEE!

$22.7M is a good start for a week that is for sure. But, I still wouldn't hold my breath as that still would not have pushed the US box office earnings over $50M. In fact that brings total earning for Dredd to a touch over $50M world wide (IIRC)...I think we still have a long way to go for a squel, even a straight to video one.

Morrison's (massive supermarket chain for those not in the UK) is selling Dredd on DVD for £4.99. That's a lot less than $30 US. In fact, it's $7.90 at today's rate.

Well, that is not going to help the sequel situation. Not a big fan when I see this happening. :?

They were promoting the DVD with a large sales display right at the door, but yeah, it's a low price for a new release.

That's $31.65 CDN and about what I paid for my Blu-Ray copy as well.

I haven't seen the film yet, but I am a little disappointed by the deviation in the uniform design. Certainly, a change had to be made to match the new, grittier style, but the absence of the large shoulderpads changes the distinctive asymmetrical silhouette that gives Dredd and the judges their strong visual presence. Perhaps a slightly more prominent eagle pad would not have gone amiss... That said, the footage I've seen in the trailers seems to do the fundamental essence of the judges justice, if not their appearance.

I read somewhere on the internet that they were selling off the props from Dredd - if that's true surely a bad sign for any form of sequel...

Doesn't have to be, it could be that that it's cheaper to sell them than to store them as it's probably at least a year before they start shooting any possible sequel. Or maybe they'll get updated for the sequel just like spider-mans suit got updated from the first to the sequels.

i loved the film!

i easily rate it above stallones outing

i watched the featurettes on the dvd, and it was implied there would be at least 2 more films, so fingers crossed =)

some may call this heresy, but the change to the lawmaster was fantastic, the whole film itself, in my opinion, had a bigger sense of realism to it.

despite how MC-1 appears in stallones and the comic books, i kinda actually preferred it this way, like everything was ''in progress'' of going to hell

who knows, if they do go ahead with two more, we might just see the city (and the uniforms i suppose), lean further and further to what we all know from the books.

now for the record, my Dredd knowledge is limited, its been 15 years since i read a comic book (dredd vs predator part 3 to be precise), so dont quote me on anything, its just my opinion on what ive seen

of course win win all round though, Dredd the movie lead me to find this place, which lead to a massive justice department order! (i say massive, its only 10 judges!)

I watched Dredd on DVD last night and I have to say I vastly preferred it to the Stallone effort. Sure, the Lawmasters and uniform in the Stallone version were closer to the comic series - as were the other vehicles and to general look of MC1.

I'm guessing the Dredd budget was a lot lower and (apart from the Lawmaster) I think it had a good look - it was a believable look. The uniform certainly looked more practical than the comic book one. It was dark and gritty and showed you how desperate life could be when all those people are jammed in one place. And he never took of his helmet - just like the comic series.

It got me more than a little nostalgic for some Dredd Roleplay (I used to have the original GW version back in the 80's) - what's the traveller version like? Do I need to get miniatures to play it? is it worth a punt?

You don't need miniatures. You do need the Traveller basic rulebook.

Thanks for the reply. I might check out the pdf version of the rules as I already have the Traveller rules.

The rules cover a lot of JD stuff. There is tons of background. But I haven't played it, so I can't tell you any more.

HMV have got the Dredd soundtrack in their blue cross sale. Means a reduction from £10 to £7.50. Makes the ideal wargaming soundtrack.

Ouch - thanks for the link, but I suspect that I'll be given slo-mo and thrown off the top of our house by the mrs if I'm caught bidding at those prices!

Although if anyone wants to split up a bid for the slo-mo cases I might take 1 or 2.
