Cheetors Dredd Stuff: UPDATE 22/09 Med, Street, Jimp

Postby cheetor » Fri Jul 01, 2011 10:07 am

I tried to submit these photos to the galleries but had problems, so I am putting them here instead.

They are the first batch of Judges that I have painted in preparation for a weekend of JDMG gaming at the end of the month. I am pretty pleased with them overall but as I am a big fan of the subject matter I find it hard to be objective.

There are more photos and some more talk about the figures and uniform colours on my blog for anyone interested.

Comments and criticisms all welcome :)

Very nice. Good to see I wasn't the only person posting their figs. Vry well painted. I love the care you put into the faces.

The combination of a feeble attempt at freckles and the prominent top lip on the figure made the Psi look a little like a cat, but overall I am happy with how this batch came out.

More in the pipeline too.

Thanks for the feedback.

I love the armour highlights and the reflections in the visors.

Those are excellent highlights, I dont have the patience for that kind of highlighting.

Keep that skill sharp.

I dont really do a lot of wet blending or any other time consuming or difficult techniques like that when painting: I dont really have the patience or the time. I am more interested in making a dent in the huge amount of miniatures projects that I have waiting for attention, which precludes very time consuming techniques.

With that in mind a couple of layered highlights is as much as I will commit too for my miniatures. I added an extra layer or two to these figures because they are quite large and because it is likely that I will only ever paint one of each, so they got a small bit more attention.

Thanks for the feedback guys :D

Oh I've just worked out which starship troopers mini was the basis for one of the suits!
If at first you don't succeed then next time hit it with something bigger.

It was originally a "Grizzly" I think. I like the restyling, I think it worked well, reminiscent of a Manta.

The body of the HS2 suit appears to be a grizzly, the arms are from a cougar I think...

I thought the exo-suits used the same arms.

I got another few Judges and a Jimp painted up recently. They are shown below along with links to my blog posts about them beneath.

Med Judge. I based this scheme on recent Boo Cook artwork.

Its been a while, but I am back working on Dredd stuff again at the moment. With tomorrow being St Patricks Day it seemed appropriate to start with the Emerald Isle Judge.

The blog post on the model is HERE. I just spotted that I missed a stage of highlighting on the right boot, so I will have to go back to that.

I have Dark Judges on the painting table, so hopefully they will be up next over the next month or so.
