Space Minis
Space Minis
So I've been casually looking around at different miniature lines for some new things to paint.* I thought I'd make a thread asking people what other space miniatures are still available, and preferably where to get them.
*add to the piles I already need to paint
http://www.star-ranger.com/Home.htm - used to be a decent place to browse the space miniatures, but I'm not sure how reliable it is anymore
.
I only know of these three, does anyone know any more? Bonus points for an American distributor.
Full Thrust - http://www.star-ranger.com/FullThrust.htm
Battlefleet Gothic - http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... GameStyle=
and

Just last week I trawled through SCN and found a few smaller companies.
I find SCN pretty reliable but you really have to look at the news entry history, if the last entry is several years ago not then not worth looking further.
One to watch out for in the Future is a game system called "Deep Black" being produced by our own Hiffano.
Some nice minis in the pipeline for that but don't take my word for it because I could be seen as being just a little bit biased.
What I am really hoping for of course is that Mongoose get on with producing CTA 3 along with a nice range of minis to go witi it.

The Hyperdyne Astronautics Devastator model from Ninja Magic is cool. I might have to pick that one up.Kickaha wrote:I too have been buying a lot of proxy fleets from GZG recently, their direct link is;

That mini is very cool indeed. Aim to buy 1 myself just haven't quite worked yet which fleet to use it in;Davesaint wrote:

First thought was Ipsha, if it had a central black hole, (could be modded of course)
Also looks Necron from BFG which is a possibility but don't play that much any more.
Could even be a cylon warship.
Funny thing is I don't really feel it fits with a most of the rest of the Hyperdyne range, its like they have two fleet styles going on there.
Ninjamagic are also about to produce fighters and later a Human ship range along with a ruleset. I am using the Kikoku for a certain religious race in B5 which had an important role in the Dilgar War.

Yeah, I am behind a bit on updates but I should get to some of them this weekend. Some old bits need some cleaning up too since the 10th anniversary of the site is coming up very soon.
http://www.star-ranger.com/Minis.htm should get to to all the commercial lines of miniatures currently available (and some old stuff, check the dates and the links to be sure)
Also troll around the SCN Forums especially the 'Orbital Shipyards' section as there are some very limited run items people are building and selling there you might find interesting. http://www.star-ranger.com/Minis.htm

Interesting story on that one. When mounted normal with the 3 prongs going down so it looked a bit like Deep Space 9, it was a slow seller. When he mounted it on its side like the picture on Rattlehead's site, sales skyrocketed as now it looked cool.Davesaint wrote:The Hyperdyne Astronautics Devastator model from Ninja Magic is cool. Funnily enough thats exactly what it was originally designed as...Kickaha wrote: Could even be a cylon warship.
A whiles back Todd produced a whole series of B5Wars designs for the original series of BSG a number of which (Devastator included) have subsequently appeared in the Hydrodyne Aeronautics range.
Indeed looking at it most of the range is now made up of those designs only the Colony Ship and H-1 Battleracer aren't...
Nick
Captain Sheridan you're under arrest for a clear violation of the laws of physics!

Haha, no offense good sir. I quite frequently lurk around your website, looking at things I wish I could still buy. Thank you for maintaining such an excellent resource.Star Ranger wrote: Used to be? Ouch.

Ah ....Sounds like the Devastator mini had an interesting history and explains why a few of the other ships in the range have a cylon look.captainsmirk wrote:Funnily enough thats exactly what it was originally designed as...Kickaha wrote: Could even be a cylon warship.

Thinking over the weekend you could probably make a reasonable Cylon station from kit bashing a few of the Hydrodyne ships together, maybe have a go at that, could probably double up as Vree station.

H-1 battleracer, going to get a couple of those as well for use as a proxy, fast B5 ship.

And where there are pics, what I really find funny is their use of a scaled grid then most of the ships are pictured at an angle to the grid so you've got to mentally spin the image and guess.Da Boss wrote: I just wish GZG would sort themsleves out and put up images of their ships - its very frustrating going to their catalogue and having the vast majority of ships without pics!!
Just quote the dims.
Must admit using GZG now for quite a few proxy B5 race ships. Their mini design has come on a lot.

Ravenstar's Cold Navy line of miniatures are very well designed and look very cool. I would be painting them now if I didn't have so many B5 ships in the queue. However, doubtless a few will slip through to the front.
Unfortunately his site isn't yet up, but you can email him to order. More pictures at the Starship Combat News' forum.

Thanks for the heads up, picked up on those from my trawl thru SCN, last week but thought they had de-materialised.whenimaginationfails wrote:Ravenstar's Cold Navy line of miniatures are very well designed and look very cool. If your interested in the background to the designs, background info and B5Wars SCSs are all still available at Todd's old site.Kickaha wrote:Ah ....Sounds like the Devastator mini had an interesting history and explains why a few of the other ships in the range have a cylon look.
