Anybody (Matt, LBH, Buehler, anyone) know how I find out if the one I ordered via MI credits was sent yet?

My FLGS states it is in their distributor's warehouse on the East Coast, but, in light of the stock of original BF:Evo minis collecting dust on his shelf, he is reluctant to order WaW until he sees a demo. Plus, I'm pretty sure he prefers to get his shipments from his distributor's West Coast (Pasadena) warehouse, which didn't get any yet. I think the distributor is ACD, but I'm not sure.

I actually have a Saturday off around the middle of May. (First one in a loooong time outside of Vacation I took two weekends ago to go to ICON). I would really love to have the rules down pat in time for a rousing demo to get him to order some copies.

The only problem I see is B&W. The book was planned in colour so Tom and I provided good, crisp 300 dpi colour photos.
Most of these come out too dark in B&W.

Otherwise all is fine.[/quote]
AGIS - THATS INTERESTING TO KNOW - AGREE SOME PICS ARE A LITTLE DARK - AND YES COLOUR WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE - RULES OF ENGAGMENT IS HARDBACK AND COLOUR EXCELLENT QUALITY FOR £25...MONGOOSE YOU COULD HAVE MATCHED?! THIS IF NOT YOU'VE GOT THE WRONG PRINTERS!

Just meant that I think Mongoose could have matched RoE's production quality and price wise - as the systems per se are on par - both are good WW2 games.

Give It Time

Postby Mac V » Fri Apr 25, 2008 3:54 pm

Aw, C'mon guys!

This IS Mongoose. There WILL be a revised edition at some point! :D Maybe it will be color.

I'd like to check out ROE, but at the price, WOW sounds like a better deal. They also sound pretty similar. Anyone have both that can give us a size up?

ROE is a good set of rules, but you need to make a " to hit " roll, then the solider hit makes a "exp" test to dodge the attck, and if you did hit, the third roll is to see if the weapon killed him, 3 d6 rolls, and WAW has 2, one to hit, one to save, also ROE has detailed tank rules, with wounder crew etc, but it slow down if you wanted big games, and now rules for aircraft...

WAW means you can have lots of tanks, and planes sweeping down, both are good systems, depends on the time you have and have big the battle you want..

Tanks

Postby Mac V » Fri Apr 25, 2008 5:05 pm

WaW handles tanks by seeing if they are hit, then killed with 2 rolls, correct? They also have hit points?

How does ROE work? Hit locations and crits?

Waw: Roll to damage (to hit + to wound in ONE roll); if the result equals or exceeds the Kill value, no roll to save. If only the target value is equaled or exceeded, roll to save, maybe one hit.

RoE: More like 40K.

True - if you are interested in more detail, we are currently working on a 'mod' for the BF Evo rules that breaks the system down further to allow, for example, the differences between individual rifles. Grenades will also appear.
Is this going to be in S&P, or it's own book, Matt?

Also, I'd love to see more advanced armor rules with crits and such.

I'm really looking forward to that book. We gotta have crits and mishaps on armor!!!!

Also, let me voice an opinion. IF/WHEN you get to theater books, I'd pay an extra few bucks for a decent history of the period, and I'd LOVE to see a solid list of the vehicles in use by each army in the book even if they aren't stated out. THis way, I'd have a good guess if a model is appropriate to the setting.

I can't believe the books black and white, is that due to going back to third party printing presses or something? Seems a bit of an odd choice otherwise given how many other systems core books are colour at a similar price these days, although I suppose without a miniature line to absorb the cost of a glossy production it could get expensive.

I was struck by just how much anti mongoose sentiment was floating round TMP for this books launch, way more than at the time of the BF:Evolution launch, I would have thought a system without minatures would have lessened it somewhat...

Anyway, I hope Mongoose makes lots of money, and manages to claw back some of the good will and reputation its lost amongst consumers and retailers over B5, Starship Troopers and BF:Evolution with this book, since it increases the chances of something Im interested in being released down the road :D

Can't agree more Max!

It was a very bad initial attitude towards the game. It really is over my head why a WW II Europe 1944-45 game can't be bought because early war stuff is not in...
:?
If you do not like late war don not buy a book about late war! But why complain about it?

Yeah, totally know what you mean with the rep issues. I've ordered the book and got some 1/72 WW2 stuff around and one willing opponent from my group. We plan to have a game next game day and see if people will be more interested when they see the game working. I've not mentioned it on purpose generally as i have argued for Mongoose before and then things haven't gone entirely to plan. Also if people can have a go without spending a penny they might have a good enough time to want a copy. Course ROE has a real strangle hold and it'll hard to stop comparisons but hey we're going to try.

As much as I seem to like this book (and I really really do, even though there are no P-51's...), I keep seeing references to ROE. I'm going to have to check that out too.

I've read the game could be classed as a "beer and pretzels" game.
Thats fine with me, i want a fast fun game thats easy to pick up.
