A Request regarding Mongoose eBay Auctions. PLEASE!!!!!

Postby kirkmex » Thu Feb 28, 2008 5:00 am

Hi guys at mongoose. I'd just like to throw this out there for thought.

So far, all the auctions you guys have listed have ended on a weekday, and I don't know about the rest of the people bidding on the stuff, but I've not had a chance to bid in the final critical seconds because I've was at work! :(

so long story short, would anyone else like to see these items listed so they close on a weekend????

I make it a point to always end auctions on weekends for that reason. Also, do not end them on a weekend of a holiday. Finding a reason to get away from relatives to bid on things can be tricky sometimes.

You could always get an auction sniper program. There's a free one: http://www.auctionstealer.co.uk/home.cfm

For the love of.... don't tell him that Greg! The fact that we here in the US are bidding in a foreign currency is hard enough!!!

Ditto!!

Personally I don't care when they end. The first go around I was too busy at work. The second time I put in some bids 2 hours or so before the end and was surprised to win the Ape Marauder 3-up. I'd have the same issue on weekends with my time. If people bid what they are willing to pay for an item in advance they don't need to camp on an auction until the closing seconds. Certainly I have sniped on auctions before, but the one Mongoose office auction I did win was simply by putting in a price I was willing to pay for it.

I also imagine Matthew posts them during the day in the office and then reviews and acts on them during the day when the auctions end since most of these are paid with PayPal. The guy probably needs his weekends off..

you know if you change the country code in an ebay address it'll display the auction in the local currency?

so

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Starship-Troopers ... dZViewItem

is in pounds

http://cgi.ebay.com/Starship-Troopers-S ... dZViewItem

is in dollars

and

http://cgi.ebay.ie/Starship-Troopers-Sp ... dZViewItem

is in euro

That's not the issue for my complaint, Lorcan. I can say 10 GBP, but that's effective 20 USD. 10 for you is 10 for you which is 20 for me. See my point?

Yeah, I know where you're coming from, but if someone in the US was selling it, it might start at €20 rather than £10... It's all relative really. In my personal expierence I find I'll bid on something if I'm willing to pay the price after conversion to Euro.

Of course, the weak dollar does push the local price up quite a bit.

Yeah, but that's macro-economics for you. Thankfully because the dollar's weak right now other countries will purchase more of our goods, and that'll mean the value of the dollar will go up. It's really a pretty vicious cycle because here in the States they go ape-$^#$ over it....

You don't think what's best for mongoose might be the best?

Ever ponder they might want to deal with it when they are actually at work?

Yes, it works. If you don't pay for it there is a limit on the number of bids you can place. Also if you pay, it bids much closer to the end of the auction - about 3 seconds.

I've lost auctions to snipe programs before.

They're for lazy bidders who can't pony up the time to physically do the work themselves. ;)

Yeah, you guys at work who should be...you know, working...instead of bidding, or the auctions some chucklehead started at what equates to 3 am my time.

Oh well, saves me $$.

I used it when I was on dial-up and refreshing the page to see bids at the end of the auction took 30+ seconds - much to slow to snipe!
