putting "products" in quotes to me implies they aren't necessarily physical items for consumption/use, hence the conclusion of a VG.

I don't know that "Product" is suggesting a non physical object as such. I think you could even go the other way with it. It's all been worded very carefuly so that we can't guess it and infringe the NDA. I hope that all will be revealled in the State of the Mongoose address Matt mentioned, which should be in S&P end of this month. Ideally we'd know right now but it must be in the above overview when it comes out (hopefully with loads of pics and details!).

At the moment the most i can say good guess to any suggestion cos there's just no way to know. Could be VG company, could be a mini company, could be KFC, just have to wait and see.

Well, I've been waiting this long, so I can wait some more... short on cash to buy goodies anyway!
However, has anyone thought that apart from a minis/diescast/software comapny, another RPG comapny or a CCG comapny might be the partner?
GURPS BF:Evo anyone? BF:Evo CCG, where the cards can be used in the CCG or as unit cards (for special elements, or add special abilities to units) in the minis games?
There's more out there that could be termed as "product" than just minis or computer games.

GURPS is an interesting possiblity. Fantasy Flight games could also be possible, they're coming out with their first CMG based on the Mutant Chronicles RPG.

GURPs was only a possibility - almost anything could be the "product"!

But they weren't put in quotes, but rather ellipses... :)

I just took it to mean that in a normal conversation he would have substituted a product name here. Because this is a stilted conversation transcribed to paper, the pause in conversation where you have to self-censor is added.

I don't see what a video game company brings to the table, honestly. Mongoose already has decent IP; more is always nice, but that isn't where the problems are. Mongoose seems to be capitalized well enough; again, more money is good, but that isn't where the problems are. Manufacturing implementation: now, that's where the problems are, and where a corporate alliance makes the most sense. For Mongoose, anyway.

The thing to remember is Matt said, the company was BIGGER than MP. and not directly related to miniature gaming. Those two things really throw most of the present ideas out of the window. UNLESS of course Matt was throwing us a red herring.

GURPs is by Steve Jackson games. A very small company. MP is larger. To tell you the truth what has really SJG done since the 80s? (My wife and I were Champion and co-Champion of Nuclear War in 1982!!) Nuked her in the finals. She still teases me about that one. Yea, I know it has nothing to do with this topic, but it was a fun time.

Well GURPS did once launch a few minatures a few years back but then their miniatures division got shot down a few months later.

Still, if it's a big RPG related company, how about Wizards of the C*** , :D sorry Wizards of the Coast?

Dunno if I'd classify SJG as a small company. Since the 80's they've had big hits with Ogre miniatures, Illuminati: New World Order, Munchkin (and its' 3 billion subsets), Chez Geek (and its' 3 billion subsets), GURPS has been one of the only consistent RPG sellers, In Nomine was a smash hit too, even if it didn't have much in the way of legs in the end (shame too)

Trust me, SGJ is a very small company. OTher than Chez, and Munchkins, all the game mentioned were from the 70s and 80s. MP is larger.

That maybe so, but you can't deny SGJ's legacy and impact on the gaming world.

SJG is larger than you think - last I checked, they are at _least_ comparable to Mongoose in turnover and staff.

So "The Kerakhistan Race of Death" goes another season? Will there be a cup race? Team points?
