You really need to play with the snipers - this is, bar none, the biggest expansion to BF Evo we have placed in S&P. Snipers can have a very powerful effect on certain games, and will make you rethink your infantry tactics in a big way. They also form their own meta-game when you have two sides engaged in countersniping.

If you think Sniper! was just a throw away article, you have not got the point. Try them. They'll surprise you.

I think by now everyone's waay too concerned about getting new models from you guys than just new unit cards with no official models to support them. I mean how long do you expect us to wait for things to finally start moving forward again?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate getting free unit cards every month but we really need new models to keep this game going and keep new players interested.

You only have ot check Ebay US, the drift away from this game has already began, with people selling up, especially in the last 2 weeks, check for yourself, next it will be the Ebay stores who will dump BFE.
I picked up a second hand BFE PLA Tank for 99c, i'm not joking! :x

I like the support Mongoose is giving us. Yeah, seriously I am. I mean, what is on the cover of this months S&P? Battlefield Evolution gang. I beleive Mongoose is doing everything they can at the moment. They don't make a penny on unit cards they release or the time they spend on the articles. What do they get for releasing cards? Flak and tons of it. Look, everyone is disapointed, including me about the hiatus. I am for one am going to have some faith and enjoy the support we get via S&P. As we speak I have my F-35 on the paint table and a Force Recon unit ready to be turned into a few sniper teams. If thats not enough to keep me busy I have my Earth Alliance Fleet and ISA Fleets needing painting!

Life is good!

meh.

Maybe some of us think we have been screwed over. Sure we could go to other sources for models. BUT, there really is almost nothing in the scale your company choose to use. You minis are more compatable to true 25mm models, and presently there is no company that makes that scale except Eureka in modern troops. Your vehicle scale fits only with out of production stuff made by Corgi. So, do not be surprised if some folks are a little pissed.

It would have been better then if this company had released just the rules. Then those of us who attempted to support the game, would have spent our money with either 1/72 scale or gone the route of the what most persons call NORMAL 28mm, which is more like 1/56th scale or in some cases 1/60 which are slightly larger.

You BIG annoucement better really be a big annoucement with full product support for the current miniatures, or there will be a lot of folks that will turn their backs on this company. We have been very faithful, and more than fair about this.

I'm somewhat fine with the lack of minis as there certainly other options available. What I hates is the lack of units
IF Mongoose could put up cards such as command for MEA and USMC forces, an attack coptor for the USMC,PLA and MEA.and get the MEA tank rolling BEFORE the next signs and portents it would be alot easier to wait for things to get back on track.

I myself like the extra cards, and the ability to use locally procured models (I've got 3 Humvees already). I was a bit disappointed that the only cards given were snipers, especially since the USMC card was released last month as well. There are some serious holes to patch in some of the armies that I'm hoping will be addressed with these cards (such as the missing command squads). Personally, I like the idea that I can now use 3rd party models that are on par with Mongoose's quality or better (at a fraction of the cost). I say keep the cards coming (but I wouldn't mind some new models eventually).

I agree. I hope these appear in the next issue.
I'd like to see the future cards give all factions at least one option in each category.

It would have been better then if this company had released just the rules.
But then Mongoose wouldn't have got the extra cash to fund EVO Starship Troopers. Speaking of Starship Troopers the Skinny hockey team they just released are absolutely shocking. Admittedly, not as bad as the Skinny Slaves which would have to be the worse miniatures of the modern era but bad nonetheless.

All the spin we've heard about BFEVO - "The game is in a holding pattern", "There's a big announcement coming", "There's a third party interested" is starting to sound like Chemical Ali. I'm just waiting to hear "There are no American tanks in Baghdad" and it'll all be complete. Seriously, it's starting to make Mongoose look like a joke and us their customers look like fools.

For many, it's too late now anyway. I've been to three stores here who after taking a punt on EVO despite their gut feeling, have said they won't be stocking EVO again even if it ever comes back. Or in the words of one retailer, "I wouldn't piss on Mongoose if they were on fire" which pretty much sums up the general feeling. It's been two months since they put BFEVO on hold and still we've heard nothing. Was I wrong to trust Mongoose? I'm starting to feel like a guy who sent money to that African President's son so he could free up his millions.

As I sit here looking at the BFEVO miniatures on my shelf, the ones my mates make fun of me for buying because apparently "Everyone knows BFEVO wouldn't last" I'm starting to wish someone had told me first. I don't want to play with proxy miniatures. If I had wanted to play with proxy miniatures I would have done so from the start and not bought Mongoose's miniatures which don't match anything easy to find. I wouldn't have spent all that money on miniatures that look inconsistent next to those from other companies. So I watch these forums and I wait, at least for a bit longer.

I sincerely hope that there actually is a big announcement coming and BFEVO will return. If something happens in that direction before Christmas then I live in hope that people may have their faith in Mongoose restored and retailers and players who are now dead against any Mongoose product might change their minds. If there is no announcement and it's all just spin then I don't think all the crap 80's roleplaying games in the world will help them.

It is clear to me that issue about the stoppage of production of models for BFE, has cause some serious concerns from those of us that have invested in BFE.
It is a fact that any product that hits the gaming market, generally survives on word of mouth to be a successful product. Also keeping that momenturn going after the annoucement of a any new product is very important as well. We, as gamers and customers are your best advertisment.
And next month, I am GMing a BFE game at Fall In Con, (it's a HMGS Con, of which there is about 2,000 attendees.) Hopefully, If I'm able to get a few gamers interested in BFE and they should ask for more info about BFE, I hope that the subject of MP, " halting," of production of models will not come up in the conversation. If it does and with me having no info on their possible resumption, it is going to be a problem for me to put a positive spin on BFE.
I'm also disappointed in the S&P 48 issue that there was no word of BFE future mention in that issue. I was under the impression from talk on this forum from Matt that there will be some type of big annoucement of an update as to what the state BFE furture is in. (And it appears that I'm not the only one with that impression.) Instead MP gives us sniper cards in S&P 48 and nothing else. That's not going to cut it IMHO.
My hope is I would like to hear from MP maybe state that Wave 4 will be produce in the 1st Q of 08. Unfortunatly so far, we get no news of the BFE future and now I'm wondering if I too, have made a bad investment. I hope I wromg because (you might find me foolish,) that I have still not cancell my wave 4 order in the belief that MP will honor its commitment to producing that wave of models. But it is hard to be positive about BFE, when MP says nothing to give us hope. And as you continue to read from this forum and others that many of gamers that have bought into BFE, are now now sorry that they have invested into BFE, it hard not to be disappointed with MP and BFE.
I agree with OS that maybe MP should have just produce the rule book and stay out of the miniature manufacting aspect of the hobby. Never the less, I hope MP will respond to this little rant with some type of honest news of BFE future. I sure could use a pep talk.

We sre still NDA'd up to the eyeballs. All I can tell you is that I , really and truly, believe you will not feel you have wasted your time, effort or money when you see what is going to happen. Oh, and your prediction of first quarter 08 is a good one.

Seriously guys, what would you prefer Mongoose to do? They have issues with production and publishing, and no amount of self-flagellation on their part will help that.

Would you have them release wave 4 immediately by taking a come-what-may stance and just do it regardless of what a crippling cost and effort it would require? That, if something, could kill the game. Would you rather have wave 4 now, or all the missing waves later?

To me, the fact that they have published the rules for upcoming units in S&P proves well enough that they are serious about the game. Someone has been paid to do that too. And, Mongoose will lose future income by doing that. Considering their situation, I just cannot imagine what more Mongoose could have done to prove their seriousness.

Providing prepainted miniatures by the box in large scale is a novel thing. Give them some credit, they are pioneers.

I am waiting for further releases just as eagerly as you, if not more. My MEA militia needs that Revered Leader to command them. Most of you other folks at least have got rules for upcoming stuff, I have not even got that, and I dare say my force needs it more badly than yours. But I refuse to take the modern consumerist attitude of I-want-it-all-and-I-want-it-now-gratify-me-dammit!

We don't want it all right now , i'm sure most would settle for bi-monthly releases rather than nothing.
The problem with the "hiatus" its irritating the hell outta of the committed gamers.
The possible new gamers won't touch it with a very long stick, cause to them and the rumor mill this game is dead.
No new releases? Game dead.
Some of the casual BFE gamers are already ditching the game and the stores are obviously gonna follow as they won't be able to sell the stuff.
Check ebay for yourself, even in the last fortnight there has been a significant increase in ditching BFE.
Thats a fact.
Please don't consider this a rant. I'm just stating some obvious facts here.

Worth remembering this sentiment. It is a very common perception, but keep it in mind the next time a company brings out a new edition/army/supplement for a game.

The flip side is that companies are very often striving to keep the releases of some games tight. Victory at Sea, for example, was never intended to have a whole string of releases (and, as of next month, we will be averaging one a year). Does that make it a dead game?

People are still playing Gangs of MC-1. Again, while it has a healthy set of units available, it was never intended to grow its catalogue size beyond its current set.

It is a question of perception.

Well, when people say that on a forum, it quite often isn't :) US eBay has 12 BF Evo sets listed in auctions, the UK site has one.

Not having a go at you, just trying to keep things in perspective :)

Huh? Chess hasn't got new releases since the late Middle Ages when its rules evolved into their current form, but it's by no means a dead game.

Or to make a more contemporary example: De Bellis Multitudinis hasn't developed anywhere since the release of version 3.1 several years ago, and it's still the most widely played pre-gunpowder historical wargame on the market.

A game is dead when people stop playing it. I just started playing BFE, so apparently it can't be dead yet.

Yes, you people really show the insta-gratification attitude of modern consumerism at its worst, acting like getting something is your God-given right just because someone once gave you the impression that you would get it. Sure, feel as pissed as you like about it, but don't blame the Mongoose dudes for doing their best in an awkward situation.

With respect, you just have to look at what BFE products have sold in ebay the last month and more importantly what they sold for.
I got a second hand PLA tank for 99cents, i even felt bad getting it for this price.

What this games needs, I feel, is to ditch the "pioneering" ideas of rules in the model boxes and pre-packaged squads that are complete and ready to use, and move back to a traditional wargame. Sell the rulebook and models, unassembled and unpainted. Complete squads are fine, but do troops and specialist blisters, too, and individual models for customisation. Oh, and for the love of the Great Maker, get vehicles and infantry made on the same scale!
