Are Drazi a comedy race in ACTA?

Postby marsa10 » Mon Mar 05, 2007 11:04 am

In the b5 series the Drazi were a bit of a joke (green/purple, Kosh/droshalla blessing - poke the plant, Ivanova, armpit pouch *gland* in call to arms etc)

Do you think this trend is continued in ACTA? I like the mad-dog image but I cannot quite feel that they are supposed to be played as anything other than as a charge! die, charge! die sort of thing - which frankly sucks in a campaign.

I can win with them I just can't win AND have enough ships left for the next fight.

PS: I know it will probably be fixed in 2e

They had a different culture and way of life, as would probably any race we meet, sure they come across as simplistic folk, but heck, they are the largest space owener in the league. The Drazi fleet is great fun, yes, it has a simple style of play, and it can prove costly, but then so do some of the other fleets. I think they are a pretty decent fleet selection really, I suppose it is all a matter of opinion on them.

Though I think they could use a few larger ships, I do not think of them as a joke, either in ACTA or the series. They were the most visible of any League race and while often the but of many jokes, always seemed to be where they were needed.

I feel the Drazi in ACTA are true to the series. Tough, aggressive and very dangerous in numbers!
The series did play them for laughs sometimes but i also remember the Drazi were willing to ambush and destroy a Whitestar task force to maintain their selfish interests!
Comedic? Sure.
But also very very dangerous and never to be underestimated!!

Well in the ID Gaming War level tournament, Hash walked away with the most expensive prize using an all-Drazi fleet ;)

I have a lot of respect for the Drazi in ACTA.
The Centauri have a very aggressive attack first type style but the Drazi are far better at it!

I find some of the Drazi ships very tough to kill. They have a lot of high hull ships and their agility allows them to exploit weak arcs.
Plus nobody is better at boarding........yet.......

Thoose hull 6 skirmish ships are just annoying, My Centauri usually win but it's close & most my ships are banged about pretty bad if they are alive.

Sky full of Warbirds (and Strikehawks) is cool..but stay away from those Solarhawks! ;)

The agility (2 x 45) is good but they are SO fast and the fact that you need to boresight that it can be tricky to position them...in effect they aren't as agile as they seem on paper!

...yes, it's not very effective when you're opponent is shooting you every turn though!

At least you'll be able to CAF with a boresight in 2e ;)

Last I heard from the rumour mill is that it will be CQ 8 or 9, but won't reduce turns.

so then, Don't take this wrong Wulf, i'm just thinking aloud so to speak

Drazi get advantages, player and tester Wulf
the centauri have an overhaul, player and tester EP
Greg? Kattadder (is he centauri too?) Uhlan? Tank plays and playtests as EA (early) i think. Sorry if i missed some testers, was just seeing how it works, no complains of Bias, Indeed, I tihnk a playtester who knows each specific race is a good idea, but of course that would need more testers.

this isn't a dig, just curious as to who plays the other races from the playtesters so has a really good feel for them
