I just remembered that I put a GW red wash on the one with the dark angels green. Thats why it looks a little brighter red.

In a hurry, some more pictures of the Narn fleet I am working on. I have to still do the Rongoth and the G' Karith.

I still have a Bin' Tak, G' Quan, and a T'Loth to paint up. I have not started on any of them yet. The T' Loth I will probally do in the regular blue scheme.

Thanks Bluebirds40.

I am also going to have to make up some bases for them. I have hex bases but I glue a washer on the bottom, and print out a sheet to go over them with the fire arcs on it. Thats what I did with the Vree ships I painted up. There are some pictures of them in the gallery section.

Great looking Narn fleet Zarash, especially like the markings.

G'Quan was the second B5 ship I ever painted, (after a Hyperion), one thing about painting Narn, teaches you how to paint thin straight lines which is a good skill to have for lots of minis.

Well done.

Good paint work, and I like the individual ship logos.

Black and red fine marker pens can help a lot when doing the patchwork. Draw the outlines with marker pens, then fill the patches by painting. Or you could go round existing patches with marker pens to make the white lines between patches narrower.

In any case, you have my respect - I know how hard it is to paint a Narn red/white/black scheme as I painted one G'Quan for my Army of Light and do not particularly want to repeat the experience, so anyone with the patience to do an entire fleet deserves some sort of award. :)

Thanks guys. I have some fine painter pens, but I used a brush to do them because I can't find the very fine tipped pens. I think they must not sell them any longer. I did not try the pens because I thought the lines may be to big when using them. I have to get used to not pushing to hard when I brush. When I write I usually push with a pencil or pen really hard.

I actually have been having fun painting them. I am not happy with some things, but I can be over critical some times. Red is hard to paint with.

I had to use my AD&D aged metal because my brother ended up borrowing my GW silver. Its starting to get dried up. I put some water in it but when I shake the little bottle I can hear a hard place in the paint hitting the bottle. I bought some Folk Art silver from Wal Mart, but it did not work very well. My brother borrows the paint, but then he does not end up painting anything.

I will be working on the rest of the mini's in the next couple of weeks. I may make the top of the Bin' Tak with the 3 bubbles instead of the boxed shaped part. I kind of like the looks with the 3 bubbles on top. I know in the fleet book it has the 3 bubbles parts on bottom. I am not sure how you all did yours. Any opinions would help.

Never used pens on minis myself, but I do know that in the UK, Staedtler do a set of coloured pens with 0.35mm tips, very fine and relatively cheap. £10 for a set 0f 20, £7 for set of 10. Don't know if they are avialable in the US tho. Just did a Google search their name is Staedtler Triplus Fineliner 334

Have never painted a mini yet where I don't look back later and say I could have done that better, and I paint a lot of minis. :P Taking pics and enlarging them is a good way to improve, in my experience, and you've already started doing that & agreed IMO, as well, red is the most challenging colour to paint well.

You can't go wrong with GW metallics, especially their "golds". For many years I only used GW metallics on all my minis, about a year ago I moved to Vallejo for their siilvers but I still use GW Mithrall or whatever its called now for the top highlight.

The pic below shows how I chose to see my first painted Bintak about 5 years ago; (& to get back to the Critique point, the only thing that I would be happy with now is the green background on the emblems, which are blended reasonably well   )

Image

So you see where my vote goes 8) , although I suppose the "slabs" could be used for the emblem.

Looking forward to seeing the rest of you minis when they are finished.

Thanks bluebirds 40, but to be fair the Narn colour scheme is one of, if not the most, striking schemes out there in any universe. Red black and white seems to work very well together and that's one of the reasons why I nicked the idea for my alternative Li Halan, Dragon Destroyer scheme shown in the Noble Armada shopping page.

Wow thats a nice looking Bin' Tak. I don't think I am going to come close to topping that any time soon. Great job on painting it.

Now I am interested in seeing your other Narn Mini's, or did you paint up a Bin' Tak only?

You got the red to pop really well. I also like how you painted white on the sides of the green symbol. I really like how it looks, and I am thinking about adding that in. I am not sure how difficult it would be to change them. The highlights in the green also look great, but I did not think of doing that, and its to late to change that now with them.

I did not have any time to paint anything else today. I had to cut the grass.

After I get these done I may start painting up some Klingon 2500 ships from the squadron box I bought, but for some reason I just have not felt like painting anything Trek. I loved playing Star Fleet Command on the computer, but I do not like the ships as much as some other shows, or movies that I have seen.

Thanks Zarash. Don't underestimate what you have done with your Narn fleet, the only difference is practice. As AdrianH said, Narn's are a tough challenge to paint and you have done a great job.

Yup I have painted a few other Narn ships :P ;

I show a link to my main photobucket page in my forum sig, but heres a direct link to the main Narn directory, (half of the pics are my own ship designs tho and I haven't taken pics of all of my Narn).

http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll18 ... bums/Narn/

Plenty of other B5 stuff in the rest of my photobucket pages as well.

One of the great things about painting ship minis is that you can go back and improve paint schemes, not so easy with figures. The G'Quan on my photobucket was first painted at the beginning of B5 CTA, as I got more practiced at blending, although still learning, I went back and improved the red to what it is now, 2 maybe 3 years later. Some day I should do the same to that Bin'tak but suspect that will never happen, still have two Ka Bin'Tak's to Paint

Klingon's are a great painting op, lots of surface to use blending on, plenty sharp edges to highlight, and the Mongoose ships have tons of detail to go crazy on. The large clear surfaces on most of the ships are also great for painting on customised murals/emblems, as I am doing this weekend on some pirate fleet, Klingon ships I am painting for a very good friend of mine.

Agreed cutting grass is a pain and it does have a habit of getting in the way, and far too often. I vote concrete every time. :D :D

I shouldn't see your pitures. Now I will have to add some more effords in painting my Narns. :)Btw. great ships you made. Never seen anything like that. How did you make them and where you got the ideas for them. I might be even interested in buying some.
Hardly w8 to see your Ka'Bin'Tac prepared for action.
Can you take a picture of Ka'Bin'Tac next to Bin'Tac, so I can see the difference in size or can you tell me the measures of Ka'Bin'Tac.

Thanks for your kind comments Soleile unfortunately though the customised dexigns are not for sale, for my own gaming table only, sorry. Don't have any pics of my Ka'Bin'Tak's largely because I haven't painted them yet, would estimate the Mongoose Ka'Bin'Taks are about 10% bigger than a Bin'Tak. If however you mean the super carrier i made myself in the last pic, thats a Bin'Tak sitting next to it.

Narn fleet is looking pretty good, nice and solid colour blocks that fit well with what's seen on screen. If I could have got my hands on one other fleet it would have been the Narns, still look out for them occasionally on auction sites.
