Looking for feedback on a new sticker idea I may produce

Discuss Mongoose's latest version of its space combat game.

What format would you like them in if you bought some?

Plain stickers, customer mounts and cuts out (cheapest).

Looking for feedback on a new sticker idea I may produce

Postby billclo » Mon Jun 24, 2013 1:25 pm

I am thinking about producing another sticker as a play aid, and I wanted to get some feedback from you all on your preferred format. Assume for this exercise that you do want to buy some...

They would be status markers of a sort, are intended to be compatible with my firing arc stickers, are meant to be put on the front top (in the Fore Arc area of my stickers) of the ship base, and ideally would be mounted on some sort of rubber material so they don't slide off while you are moving the ship.

I tried mounting the stickers to some thin rubber glove material, but it was not stiff enough, and the whole sticker+rubber backing was prone to curling and it did not look good. I should be able to obtain some 1/32nd or 1/16th inch thick rubber material to try out instead.

I have 3 options for mounting.

1) I sell you the stickers, you mount any way you want (cheapest).

2) I mount the stickers on a relatively stiff rubber material, but you cut them out (moderate price). Shipping will be more expensive than just mailing stickers.

3) I mount the stickers on a relatively stiff rubber material, but I cut them out for you (most expensive). Shipping will be more expensive than just mailing stickers. Cutting out the mounted stickers is likely to be hugely time consuming, given my inability to have them die-cut, so the price will be much higher than plain stickers that you mount yourself.

Unfortunately, my local print shop does not know of any material they can print the stickers on that has a rubber backing already on it. Plus we run into the issue of them not being able to cut it, them not having any suitable die-cut machines, etc.

Trying to get these made by die-cutting, even if feasible, is likely to require a very large production run, which is going to be too expensive for me to contemplate.

Thoughts?

you may look into silvercompass designs and see what he can cut for you. They have a laser machine. I used them to cut my bases with the arcs etched out for me.

I had considered having someone laser cut some plastic tokens, but they are still going to need some sort of rubber backing so the pieces don't slip off the base so easily. I would want them to laser etch the writing on the token, and for the writing to be colored in white.

I contacted Litko about this sort of work, but they have not gotten back to me.

The rubber backing is the biggest issue right now. Having just the sticker made is pretty easy, it's the mounting that's the trickier part.

Check your local scrapbooking store, they have tons of cutting dies in all sorts of shapes, I've used them on 110lb cardstock without any issues (my wife has a lot of these.)

Archon: Ignore THAT ship? It’d be easier to ignore the elephant and 800-lb gorilla playing cribbage at the kitchen table during breakfast. Cool design, but that eyeball keeps watching me!

The above post is my personal opinion; I do not work for ADB or Mongoose.
