Not got them yet. When they arrive I'll be asking for advice on painting green Klingons.

I only got the rulebook because I pre-ordered two fleet boxes, Fed and Klingon.

I shall try and post mine up tomorrow for you.
Down the street, third door on the left.
Up the ladder, third floor, right hand corridor, 6 doors down.
Through the door, across the field with the space cows to the lamp post.
Climb the lamp post and jump directly upwards.
Land on the bicycle.

There are both painted and unpainted photos and reviews up on other websites, you just need to look around a bit.

I want to thank you for posting those pics gives me an Idea of what I will be up against. I will be a Klink player as well. Were you planning on hand painting the Klink insignia?

A camera is the most merciless critic in miniatures painting. You will take a picture of your flawless mini, and yet when you look at the picture later, the Camera has found so many mistakes and sloppy spots in all their high-DPI glory.

Stupid Camera. :?

Looks good. I would encourage a wash / highlight anyways to pick out a lot of the details. It does make quite a difference to the end result. Going over some of the larger details in a slightly different colour to make them stand out would also help increase the 'wow' factor of the mini.

Sadly I have no minis to take pics of yet, but Mongoose assures me that detail will be taken care of soon enough. I can post pics of other (non-SF) minis I've done (is there a forum for that here?? Edit: no there really isn't....) to show some work I've done in the meantime if folks are interested.

Good job on the miniature. I too would consider myself average and am also way out of practice.

Here are some shots of my first go at the Klingon Squadron box

I'm playing my first game of ACTA:SF tomorrow and hope to take some prettier shots of the whole Klingon Squadron, and my recently completed (last night) Feds.

The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that the deflector dish on the frigates in these shots have not been painted copper yet. The actual miniatures have now been finished, dish and all.

It works better if you then drybrush the original colour over the top (like my "not-Klingons" here:http://i701.photobucket.com/albums/ww12/IRMcG/Federation%20Commander/GEDC0947.jpg)

I think the washed version looks heaps better. As noted, you can dry brush the original colour if you think the end result is too dark. A lighter set of edge highlights would look ace too.

The miniature looks much better with the wash added. Yes it is a little tricky at first but practice will pay off! I also agree that a layer of drybrush or two will further improve the miniature to a similar degree. You want to go darker with inks as they 'fill in' the crevasses and progressively lighter with your drybrushes to highlight the edges. A variety of results can be obtained from experimenting.

Both inking and drybrushing together give the appearance of depth to a mini. Both techniques do take some practice but the end result will be worth it.
