To fight temptation or to give in?

Postby flatscan » Thu Dec 03, 2009 8:05 pm

So, I recently purchased the TSR Conan RPG boxed set, the one Conan RPG item I had previously not owned (other than the TSR minis but I'm frankly not interested at all in those). The box arrived today and the set came shrink wrapped, allegedly having never been opened. So the question remains...do I open it to take in the goodies within or leave it in shrink wrap for collectibles sake? Part of me seriously wants to open it as I want to make sure all the contents are inside. Another part of me wants to leave it as is in case I should ever have a need to resell it. What would you guys do? :?

What's the point of having it if you don't open it? If you want a shrink wrapped box then try to find another.

Rip it open - it's a pretty cool box set. 8)

Shrink wrap collectibles? I never get why something should be more valuable when it still sealed up? What is the point of buying it, when its going to collect dust on your shelf, waiting on a new owner to buy it? Collectors make sealed-up object out to be like virgin slave girls, but unlike a virgin slave girl, its not going to bleed when you "brake the seal" - hell, that is the best part of owning a virgin slave girl! *yum!*

If you want to keep it around just to sell it for a higher value, then store it a sealed container. It you want to enjoy the game to it's fullest value, pull off the wrapper, and keep the box and contents in a safe place, when you are not using it.

Open it, definitely!
Besides, I don't think that the TSR Conan game is so sought after to have a much higher value shrink wrapped than open. I bought it shrink wrapped, new, at a store 4 or 5 years ago, and it did not cost me really much.

I'd open it. As long as you take care of it afterwards I don't think it'll lose too much of its value should you actually decide to sell it sometime down the road. Besides, if I was in possession, it'd kill me not to look at what's inside.

Open it, then invest in a shrink-wrap machine like the seller probably did.

Ok, so I gave in to temptation and ripped open the shrink. I was skeptical that this boxed set could possibly have been unopened for 20+ years but after the out of box experience I had all the items within look brand spanking new. Behold:

I tried to read the rules to that game but I couldnt get into it that much. It seemed more complicated than it was worth.

How does the game actually play? Fun? How does it stack up to Mongoose Conan?

You broke that box's "seal". So, did it felt as good for you, as it did for it?

Oh, and thank for showing you spread! Wow, what looks sweet!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be in my bunk!

I understand your joy. I few years ago I payed way to much for a copy of HellBound, the 2nd ed planscape boxed set for the blood war. It was origanaly published when I was stationed in german, and so had never seen it.

I have to say you have more restraint than me, I tokk about 30 seconds to open it. but then I bought it wioth the intention to play.

In fact, the three adventure modules are much more interesting.

The rules make me think somewhat of King Arthur Pendragon (but not as good).
An American-style kitchen is a kitchen in the living room.
A French-style toilet has toilet in the living room.
My neighbours combine both styles.
