Colour version of 2nd ed rulebook?
No news on a "deluxe" version of the 2nd ed Conan rulebook? I would buy it ASAP if it was in colour like the Atlantean and without problems like pages falling out...

Mongoose's downgrade approach to its books is a miserable development - i ask you why?
the Atlantean ed and slaine d20 were miles ahead of current fair in terms of production values - i like my books to be as pleasing as possible to gaze upon...call it deluxe if you want but it used to be standard for these ranges.

B&W isn't bad but when Mongoose uses color pictures and scans them as black and white - a la the 2nd edition rulebook - the result is a blacker, detail less, unattractive image. I know Vincent pointed this out as well and I concur.
I agree with The King - I hope the regional sourcebooks will be in color. They are the crème de la crème of the RPG line and should be treated as such.

I think we got spoiled by Wizards and its full color hardbacks. But I admit that full color isn't very good under electric light (too many reflection).
Moreover I grew up with awful layout and B/W. However considering the actual technology, color maps are truly pretty to give a feeling.
As to the recent B/W illustrations from Mongoose's own printer, I am quite pleased with them because the resolution seems to be higher (at least with RuneQuest books).

I say MEH! to black and white "color" books!
Black and white with black and white pictures and decent binding and layout I don't mind at all, but we look at a devolution which is not necessary and unheard of with other companies.
Savage World RPB are state of the art (look at Solomon Kane *drool*).
Mutnats and Masterminds dito (slighly less, but still great).
Tri Stat was great to good (okay, some of the sourcebooks and adventures for Sil Age Sentinels were quite awful).
HERO Games has great maps and okay to horrible illustrations (but the usually STAY horrible and usually don't get godawful!)
Why does this happen with Mongoose? It's a pity, really: Great games but with a sad eye you look at middle-of-the-road layout. This is especially so because you KNOW that they were and can be great - they just decide that they don't need that excellence any more ...
Yes, complaining on a high level. But still: My money - I want all that it is worth and am ready to chip in a little extra. But someone says "Nah!" to me.

I recently bought the Soloman Kane Book a couple of weeks after the Conan 2nd edition Book, and the two books don't even compare. Solomon has color, good binding. Conan is a black and white and is falling apart. Yes, Conan has more pages, but the presentation of the two books isn't even close. Come on, Mongoose, you're going to have to keep up!

Its very obvious why, PRICE!!! the 1st ed was $50, I've seen other colour hardcovers going for $80+ Now if I'd had to pay $80 just for the core rulebooks pluse dice & supplements I'd have told mongoose where to go. Face it full colour glossy pages on every single page is eye candy nothing more. In short, an rpg should be PLAYABLE not just be something that looks pretty sitting on a shelf.
