Aliens of Charted Space Vol. 1 - It Is Here!

I’ve put all the elements into a spreadsheet, so that I can use Vlookup with a random number between 1 and the maximum (set to TRUE to select between the values) and you can see the totals of each in the middle columns. On the plus side, my hard copy of the pronunciation looks right .

Aliens of Charted Space Vol. 1 - It Is Here!

I also note that the Aslan word generator list don’t add up (page 12). While there are 87 initial consonants, the vowels and final consonants are both under by 3. The text also refers to the frequency of “h” as a final consonant as 10, but it does not appear in the list. There is “kh” at 10…

Aliens of Charted Space Vol. 1 - It Is Here!

Also, while I presume that Cr we’re meant rather than MCr, 1D-5% means that you only get a 1% payout every six years (on average) and nothing the other 5. That is not a good return rate!

Aliens of Charted Space Vol. 1 - It Is Here!

I just bought Aliens vol 1 and while, overall it’s great and I’m looking forward to including them into my campaign, I am disappointed by the typos still in there four years after publication. For example, the Asian Ceremonial career has a corporate row on the advancement / survival table and...

    Traveller Release Schedule 2024

I notice that the hardcopy release date for the World Builder's Handbook kept being pushed back. Is there a definite date for posting yet?

    Traveller in Historical Settings Poll

I would love to see a steampunk option for Traveller, which could also be used in regular games, say on tech level 4 or 5 worlds.

Tell us about the Worlds you have Built!

I’ve been using the world builder methods to understand Lacaluju in the Athwa subsector. It’s corrosive atmosphere is caused by volcanism pushing sulphur dioxide into the air, which then turns the rain into sulphuric acid. It is also quite close to a red dwarf, so not quite tidally locked, but...

Maybe it goes without saying, but trade can easily be part of a solo campaign

Vector movement rules in updated companion: questions and issues!

After multiple turns using the vector movement it will be easy for the resultant movement vectors to get very large, making the plotting on the game table difficult. If this is the case, and assuming that there are no “fixed points” in the vicinity (asteroids, etc), it is good to remember that...

Vector movement rules in updated companion: questions and issues!

Not everyone finds vectors easy to understand, which is ok. As a structural engineer vectors are my meat and drink, but my geotechnical engineer friend struggles with them. On the other hand, she is much better at calculus than I am. Vectors are definitely best understood with diagrams. Is there...

    Ship Design Philosophy

While these are intended to apply to spacecraft design, they are true for almost all engineering practice https://spacecraft.ssl.umd.edu/akins_laws.html (Apologies if this has already been posted in this excessively long thread)

The World Builder's Handbook - It Is Here!

Rogue planet plot ideas from the literature Dark Eden: a planet lit and heated by geothermal “trees”. In the books, inhabited by the descendants of the first explorers Beyond the Aquila Rift: an “empty” hex where many misjumping ships end up. Are there others?

The World Builder's Handbook - It Is Here!

I note that the World Builders Handbook Forms and Templates.pdf does not include the system overview graph that is shown in WBH pgs 64, 66, 68. Will there be an update to the template file to include this?

    Jump capacity

Oops the maths definitely left orbit there. That all seems much more reasonable. And as for the handwavium, even the hardest SF requires some :)

    Jump capacity

There is also the question of relative speeds. Any ship leaving a planet must start off with the planet's velocity. A thrust 1 M-drive allows 1g of acceleration (9.81 m/s^2 : 3.53 km/h^2): to match speeds with the Earth (as an example of a planet in a typical orbit, travelling at 107,000 km/h)...
