Re: Free Epic Campaign - The Pirates of Drinax

IIRC, the RAW is only explicit for interplanetary transit times (and the table is wrong in most printings - see errata). All interplanetary travel assumed "constant acceleration to midpoint, turnaround, and constant deceleration to arrive at the destination at rest" [The Traveller Book, p. 54]. The...

Re: Aramis: The Traveller Adventure - Now Available

What about the start of the adventure? Is the PCs still expected to automatically take the side of a random victim of a mugging that they don't know from Adam and blithely break the law for his sake, commiting a difficult burglary for no clear gain purely in the interest of justice and based purely ...

Re: Free Epic Campaign - The Pirates of Drinax

The thing is, there's no such thing a zero velocity, only zero velocity in a specific reference frame. So what the rules as written has the ship doing is accelerating for half the journey from orbit to jump limit and decellarating for the other half, coming a stop relative to the departure world , t...

Re: Jump fuel, L-Hyd droptanks and Battle Tenders

However we know that the power itself is not enough, from CT HG (and in the OTU) at least, wherein even if the capacitors are filled you still need the required fuel to jump. In that instance it's not the power that is the bottle neck, it's something to do with processing the fuel rapidly (instantl...

Starships are registered to member worlds. See examples of individual ships in Merchant Prince (the original MP, that is). Otherwise I agree with you.

The adventures were published in Compendium 2, or so I hear; I haven't received my comp yet.

Re: What book is needed to have a full map of the Universe

Jeraa - what is X-boat route in the map legend? Wow...some places are 8 hex apart...I guess you would need a special jump-ship or only can jump so far, and will have to rough it the rest of the way. I was looking down in the Reft Sector at the Islands Cluster That's where drop tanks and collapsable...

Re: What book is needed to have a full map of the Universe

For the past 20 years I've been working on the history of the Spinward Marches as a hobby. I've written a number of adventures and world writeups for JTAS Online. Sadly, some of the material has been superceded by subsequently published material, but a lot of it is still canon-compatible. Nor am I t...

Re: What book is needed to have a full map of the Universe

The X-boat idea is kind of cool. It reminds me of the American Pony Express in the 1800s, and the X-boat handles the problem with communication times between parsecs. Thats exactly what they are. That's exactly what they're supposed to be, and that's what they were conceived as back when they were ...

Re: What book is needed to have a full map of the Universe

Most people like to play in the Spinward Marches sector; it was the original setting of the old game, and is a frontier zone at the edge of the Imperium. The Marches are bordered on three sides by hostile aliens - Vargr to the coreward, Zhodani to the spinward, Aslan to the Rimward, and a pocket of...

Re: Mongoose and the 5th Frontier War

Given the nature of the FFW with it's politics on the Imperial side (Duke Norris "finding" an imperial warrant and using it to make himself head honcho) The quotation marks are inappropriate (Or possibly not[*]). Norris didn't make up his Imperial Warrant (it was his elevation to archduke he fudged...

So gold in a system with way too much gold deposits wouldn't offer as good a price as say a place where such precious metals was in poor supply so that scout could carry say a few tons of gold from the gold rich place for say half the usual value and sell it at the system where its all bar non-exis...

We had similar deliberations when we worked out the value of dustspice. A lot of the volume wound up being special packaging. Easiest f...

Re: Trade Bars

Just use gold. According to Research Station Gamma (p. 38) it is worth Cr200 per ounce. That could be rounded off and could be an ounce ounce or an arvedupois ounce or a troy ounce so could be somewhere between Cr6450 and 7140 per kilo. The easisest is to just say Cr200 per ounce and make the trade ...

2. After getting together with a player to show him the character generation system, he wound up owning two ships, a small boat he got from his navy career and a huge science vessel from his scholar career. I hadn't really wanted the players to start off with this much wealth... it seems odd that t...

*blows the dust off my draft notice* (not really, it was in my FFW box) New canonical evidence! Huzzah!! There's an Admiral Donosev in charge of the Office of Troop Selection on Regina, and he's not attached to the 193rd Fleet but works under the Imperial War Ministry. I wonder if he's a descendant...

Re: Free Epic Campaign - The Pirates of Drinax

That's part of the dilemma for the pirates. They need to be far enough out from the world that they can get away afterwards without pursuit being too close behind them, but close enough in to maximise their chances of meeting a potential target. The real problem for pirates (in systems with system ...
