Re: My House Rule - Combat Actions
Here are my changes to the actions rules: * Characters have 3 minor actions per combat round + dexterity bonus with a minimum of 2 minor actions. * A character may make a hasty (Snap) attack using a minor action at -2. * The maximum number of attacks a player can make is their weapon skill +1 with ...

Re: Traveller 2e Character Creation
There's a house rule I've seen used too where once character gen in finished - you all then roll a mishap to see why you've become travellers.... Hum.... very interesting idea. It almost calls for a d66 table just for that use. :D Yeah actually I think it's a great idea especially as players seem s...

Re: Traveller 2e Character Creation
I'm finding 5 and 6 term characters to be more rewarding to make. I thought 4 terms was about the ideal but actually in 4 terms I've had a few players muster out with no mishaps and reasonable ranks of 3 or 4 which is less interesting than say, a 6 term character who mishapped out. There's a house r...

Re: 2D Deck Plans
I just checked on drivethru - high guard definitely has 2d deckplans (thank the gods).
I really like the isometric as you get fantastic mental image, but those 2d plans are definitely more practical (ie: ship modifications, use as battle maps etc.)

Re: Missile Turrets
Ammunition for a missile turret would be packed suitable into crates, suitable packing etc. Thus the extra space. Once loaded into the turret they are no longer surrounded by shock absorbing materials and packaging. Unless you keep your spare missiles rolling around on the deck? This is the box a st...

Re: Upgrading Jump Engines or M Drives
Not that I have the deck plans at hand but isn't the Far Trader a Free Trader with the cargo wall moved to accommodate the larger engine room? And the bigger fuel tanks too. This is something I imagine is prohibitiveley expensive to do as a modification, although that would have been how that confi...

Re: A Rough Blueprint?
Sounds a bit like a GMPC/Mary Sue/Uber BBEG to me. I'd be concerned (unless you really trust this GM). What I CAN see working, is the group being picked up by such a ship and being pressed into service. You could run a whole campaign on such a hulk - with such a huge crew there'd be a number of fact...

Re: 2.0 - So Now A Laser Pistol Can Damage A Starship?
I'm not sure I understand the "problem" (perhaps "thought experiment" is a better term?). Should a sidearm do no damage whatsoever to a starship? First of all, you're meant to round down unless otherwise stated. That's on page 5, so no, a laser pistol cannot damage a free trader with armour 2. Let's...

Re: Rolling stats
Thanks everyone for the responses!
We ended up rolling 2d6 * 6 and arranging the results as we wished.
Most of the players rolled down the line and only shuffled a couple of numbers around after - but everyone was buying into the process anyway so that made it easy for me

Rolling stats
I know this has been discussed a lot on 1e, but I haven't seen it for 2e yet.... How do you roll your base stats in character gen? And what are people's reading of the rules as-written? It is the phrase "in any order starting with strength" that confuses me. Do you roll 6 times and then assign the n...

Re: Anti-aging drugs, actual mechanical effect
I always took it to mean that you could take them constantly and live indefinitely. It matters little outside character creation, unless your campaign is reeeeally long. So a character could take anagathics and make a 30 term character if they wanted. I hate to think what that would look like - prob...

Re: New Books and Old Books Corelation
Speaking for myself only here - I own nothing but core, and one setting book, and there's no way I'm buying anything else until 2e has "gone gold" and the landscape is clearer. I know the official word is everything should be easily portable back and forth between editions, but I am an incredibly la...

Re: Defining time
The number of payments that are made over a mortgage indicate a 12 month year - which is fine when you assume a "terran"/gregorian calendar, as the core rules perhaps should.
So perhaps it is the 3I fluff that needs updating, rather than the core rules?

Re: Defining time
Why not also make it clear in the rules though? Something noting that payment schedules assume an earth-based calendar, to be adjusted on a setting by setting basis, would do just fine. Once it's made clear, there's no reason that people who wish to hand-wave mortgages and the payment schedule canno...

Re: OK, a potential grognard hate fest awaits with this ques
Now you're adding another level of complexity by saying there are months It's not me that says there are months, it's the core rulebook ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ From the spacecraft operations chapter: "If the crew are paying off debts on their spacecraft, then these must be paid each month " "paying 1/240th of th...

Re: OK, a potential grognard hate fest awaits with this ques
It isn't some desire for a "metric" timekeeping system, it's the fact that the numbers themselves are based purely on earth-centric assumptions and the numbers don't factor properly. Our current calendar is already ancient, and includes several unusual rules to keep it accurate (leap years in years ...
