The softcover RQ Deluxe is a fine product. I have had zero problems with the binding, whereas the hardcover version I own is just waiting to explode.

This is what I have been using for about 16 sessions, and the players love it. It has been quick and easy to use. Combats against equals turn into somewhat longer, but extremely dangerous events as lady luck plays a bigger part than she does when turning mooks into puree. All my players prefer it ov...

Most current weapon systems either use or recommend a 3-5 round burst for burst fire options. Assuming 3-5 rounds are fired, the most important factor is range to target. The further away the less likely a secondary hit will occur. Generally using bursts is for CQB operations, or for attempting to i...

I am mostly happy with it as I have been with most of the Traveller editions over the years. This one definitely harkens back to CT. I will undoubtedly be tweaking some combat rules to make it more cinematic, never liked the fact in any edition that dodge/diving for cover was so ineffectual (realist...

One of my players moved down to Charlotte NC a few years ago and when he got there he made the comment "I just moved to d20 land. If you don't play d20 you get looked at like a freak of nature." It was really strange, but apparently he has successfully introduced a variety of other games. Good luck ...

Doing a Glorantha specific core rule book as the initial roll out for the product line would have been a mistake. Many people are clearly using MRQ in their own settings, and having Glorantha wasting page count in what is clearly intended to be a generic ruleset would have been disappointing. As it ...

The hardcover I treated with velvet gloves, because honestly I was afraid of cracking the binding and beginning the flurry of dropping pages. The softcover is easy to open, does not feel flimsy, the print towards the binding is easier to read because the book is more relaxed (i.e. the pages sit flat...

Just got my soft cover copy of Deluxe and I feel much more confident about its durability, as compared to the hardcover one I already had. Also it is much more readable.

Fortunately Stephen Turnbull is a historian and not a metallurgist, weaponsmith, or apparently a practitioner. The katana is generally used to redirect / parry with either the side or back (spine of the blade). In actuality a block could only reliably be performed with the spine of the blade. For de...

I was unsure of the exact period being depicted in the supplement, however my point stands since both swords have a similar background, and mystique that most westerners (including myself) fall into at some point or another. The katana as listed in the Arms & Equipment guide along with its other Eas...

I am just hoping it does not include some seriously mistaken conceptions about the katana being some sort of super sword, but if we continue in the vein of A&E it will be.

Softcover Availability

Just out of curiosity when might Runequest Deluxe and other core titles be available in softcover. I just picked up Magic of the Young Kingdoms (which completely kicks ass) in softcover, and I am much more confident of its longterm durability than my hardcover RQ Deluxe, and would be interested in b...

Some interesting points. I would have to agree that your choices may very well be based on setting. Either way what it comes down to for me was as a base philosophy there should be no instant win when dealing with equals. Putting a lower cap on one and not the other brings a level of unfairness to t...

Thats what I am using. Fully opposed rolls for everything, including combat, with no critical sacred cows roaming about. I'm not a huge believer in the lucky shot. Opposed Tests Opposed tests are made by both characters attempting the relevant skill test. Both characters make the tests as normal, ro...

I have to say I was surprised by the new skill cap. The problem for me is the fact that both of these skills are used to resist spells, which don't have a skill cap. Can we say have fun being mind controlled silly warrior. Oh, wait we have no active countermagic, so enjoy being mind controlled if yo...

Ultimately capping it or making a statx5 only hurts the players. The giant used in the example is still going to be a bad ass because the average Con is 39. It is not a problem with the skill, but with the way damage is applied. The way it is currently set up per the RAW is that there is no clear st...
