Here are a couple. This one is a basic lesson format showing the basics of what the Evade Outmaneuver is intended to do. None of these will include environmental aspects, such as tables, chairs, rugs, tapestries, etc. they are all done in a classroom/sterile environment, and they still work. http://...

Re: More RQ Questions

I think the OP is talking about the elf winning initative and choosing Outmanoeuvre as an action. This prevents anyone who he beats with his Evade roll from attacking during that combat round - and I think most people are assuming that the evading elf can't attack them either although it doesn't sa...

In all seriousness you should check out some videos of Aikido demonstrations to get a feel for what it is (they are just the easiest to find). The Evade to Outmaneuver is not an immediate effect it is in essence a combat action which takes and lasts an entire round. It is quite reasonable particular...

For your third question, to clarify, your Elf Lord appears to be using a Combat Action to outmaneuver your party of PC's. If they all fail he essentially maneuvers in such a manner as to be able to confront a single player without engaging the others. They don't lose their CA's per se, but they cann...

So then obvious question is, why is there not just a 'melee' skill? My games have an Unarmed and Armed Combat Skill, that is it. I wrote up a detailed progression of how to add weapons and maneuvers to it, based on expending some Improvement Rolls (nowhere near the number you would going old school...

Matter of terminology, I was a Marksmanship Instructor. Basic Marksmanship is just that the fundamentals of the weapon without which nothing else matters.

Number 2 however, is harder to argue with. As an amateur reenactor myself (and with some shooting experience, both with firearms and bows), I can completely agree with Pete's assesment of how much it actually takes to be an effective fighter. A modern soldiers ability to hit the enemy is much more ...

I take your point about how weapon useage becomes increasingly similar as one progresses in skill. I am suprised to hear missile and melee are so simialr but will bow to superior experience. All combat is a matter of taking thinking about time, space, kinetic energy, potential energy, material scie...

I'm working on a Middle Earth campaign, and what I'm working on for the magic system mirrors to a large extent what you're considering for magic items. My take on ME magic is that it's not independent of normal skills, but is closely linked to them. Rather than take a magical skill in nature for ex...

I refined it somewhat, and have included some examples. The examples are specific to the setting I am working on. Enchanted items, weapons, armor, are all plot devices, tools to tell the story of the hero more than a way to them with a some sort of bonus, or power. They are simply items with names, ...

Re: Re Stainless....try it, you will like it...

The crew by the way, seeing what happened and what I did so cold bloodedly, both feared and respected my little female magic user. The crew seeing this decided that it was only time before they would be joining their friends, the next time the psychotic mage decided to make a point. Realizing this ...

C&S is not that bad. Phoenix Command now that is truly like staring into the mouth of madness.

This would result in an armour penalty of 12 / 7 = 2, which is your penalty to strike rank and other things. This is incorrect. For Armor Penalty it is Total Armor Points/5 (Round Up)=Armor Penalty. Using the Armor in question your encumbrance would indeed be 12 ENC, however the Armor Penalty (SR P...

Having trained MMA for a couple of years and other martial arts for over a decade, my take on the extra CA's being or not being is that as soon as you go in swinging with both fists fists you give up your defence so in practice there is no extra combat action involved. On the other hand. If you att...

To me, it makes perfect sense that two fists does not grant an additional CA. The reason is that unless you're trained in some martial art, especially in an asian one as they embody speed and precision, there are several issues to striking with both fists. I intend to offer no offense in this, howe...

Another thing I was thinking about was essentially cooperative expenditure of points. The player can call upon or invoke the blade, but it does not guarantee it will work. Or hidden hero points. Or a mix of these. The item may have a reserve of hero points just for making sure it does not get broken...

I have no problems with keeping things simple. I have no problem with grouping weapons together. But I find the rules just aren't well defined. They are too non-specific. They raise too many questions. I think one of the underlying threads of this conversation has definitely been that the answer to...

Enchanted Items

Anyway I have been plugging away at a new setting for a while, and have been using RQ2 for its framework. One of the biggest hangs up has been magic (typical). For my purposes the way enchanted items work is just too D&D for the setting. So I have wracked my brains trying to figure out a way to do t...
