Well, now we know where Mongoose is getting all their excellent pre-painted minis from! :D

Great figures and great painting process.

Nothing I've come across so far rubs me the wrong way. The designers, writers and artists should be free to be creative. In a world as large as Glorantha the notions that, for example, all trolls have uniform features, that every culture shares the same calendar or that every culture has the same in...

Do you guys know about Yamato? I started a thread on the 'What's next?' forum prior to the VaS one being set up. Check it out here: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=21877 Well worth watching. My fave naval war movie though is Midway. I also loved the action sequences in Pearl...

Morison's books are definitely lacking in details that have arisen since their publication; mainly first hand accounts by the lower ranking soldiers and perspectives from the Japanese side. That said, any particular volume does offer a good introduction to the period under study. You'll most definit...

A focus on the Apocalypse War would allow for multiple figs of judges to be made and used. There is also the Holocaust Squad, which would be very cool. The thing is though is that as things stand now, there are bigger and more profitable projects for Mongoose to concentrate resources on. Cheers, Eisho

Someone just posted this on a Man 'o' War group I'm on. The company does play mats for naval wargames (among others).

GHQ because I already have several miniatures (though haven't used them for a long time). I am interested though in the 1:6000 scale minis mentioned above. I wasn't aware of their existence. For large-scale actions in the Pacific though, this could be a better way for me to go.

I just checked the blurb for the main rulebook, and it is definetly based on ACTA.

I've always wanted to do Pacific theatre carrier battles but the system that I have been using has many, many complicated tables, calculations and what not. Hopefully the VaS system will make them far easier to use (as opposed to taking hours over 1 turn of aircraft moving). Thge reason I use these...

Getting back to the movie, I found it interesting but ultimately a bit of a disappointment, probably because of the hype about it on some of the wargaming and naval Yahoo groups. As a human interest story showing the Japanese side of events and the cultural aspects of life on board it was good, but...

I've read about the influence of the Annapolis-mentality on Halsey but think it only goes so far to explain his decision. The Japanese carriers provided a threat exacerbated by the fact that there were land-based landing strips nearby. This would have allowed planes to fly from carriers on attack mi...

At the time of Leyte the Japanese were still fairly strong carrier-wise (though outnumbered by the Americans). What the Japanese lacked were sufficient carrier pilots and planes. Had the Japanese been able to assemble a reasonable air force I think the tactics employed at Leyte would have been very ...

Victory at Sea fans: Yamato movie

Apologies to the mods. I know this isn't strictly speaking about VaS but I figured there would be more interested people likely to see it on this forum rather than on the Off Topic forum. Yamato is a new video release in Japan. I'm not sure if it's available outside Japan at the moment but for WWII ...

Well, the point of the poll isn't for market research reasons. I simply started it at the time that the announcements about SST:E and BFE were made. Up to this time Mongoose has produced paint-and-play wargames which have obviously been very popular with forum members. I, and a few others, however -...

These figures are very cool. Things keep on looking better on the pre-painted front. I was thinking of getting the Game of Thrones boardgame with the last of my free cash, or maybe take a chick out, but I'm begining to realise this is a much better investment If she's rich, take the girl out. Much b...

I'd love to see this game!!

My favourite unit was the NOD stealth tank. Used to play the missions with that unit for hours, drawing them out just so I could use the unit.

With regard to pricing, this boxed set is in line with current non-painted Mongoose figs. 2 boxes of Mobile Infantry - $40 2 Marauder box sets - $40 Totals the same $80 as this boxed set plus you get a few extras (scenery, measure and rules). Fair enough, not everyone will like the sculpts or the pa...
