I think the system would need some reworking and adptation to reflect the hyboian world, as it has been done for the D20, but a RQ Conan would be far more appealing to me than a D20 one...

RttRoK has 80 more pages, focusing mainly on the Black Kingdoms. The regional maps of the 1st edition are almost all gone, though.

It has nothing to do with the system, even if in my opinion the rules were way too cumbersome to attract a larger audience. The loss of the licence, combined with poor editing choices in the 2nd edition killed the game.

My two cents.

Necropolis is a D20 adaptation of an old Dangerous Journeys supplement. There's a lot of good ideas in it, but it still has an heavy high magic/big monsters D&D approach. Not too shabby, but not as good as I hoped it would be. For a better choice, and still from Necromancer Games, go for Morten Bra...

I agree. To my eyes BoL manages to capture the "Howard feeling" far better than OGL ever did. One goes for a rule lite heroic action system, while the other focuses on "anti Howardish" crunch and maths. Of course this just my opinion...

I'm reasoning differently. The experience system is loose enough in Conan to allow GMs to tailor their campaigns to their needs. If I plan to run a long term campaign, I give experience slowly, and on the other hand, I tend to be more generous with campaigns with a shorter lifespan. Generally, I dec...

Actually, the screen is very nicely illustrated, but filled with the most useless tables of the game, forgetting the useful ones. It's fully compatible with the 2nd Edition and comes with a nice (but wrong) giant sized poster map of the Hyborian world.

Destiny of Kings, with its non-dungeon/low magic approach can make a very nice Conan adventure.

I'll say that in the Howard novels, everything can die, man, beast, demon or god... They don't go back anywhere, except to the pits of Aralu! Sharing a same base game system is the only common point between Conan and D&D. Pushing the comparison further will be a big mistake on what the game really i...

Most characters generally begin illiterate in my campaigns, unless justified by class (mostly scholars, nobles and temptresses to a lesser extent) or background. I don't have any fixed rule for this (you know of much I like rules! ) and decide arbitrarily, case by case, if the character can r...
