Re: Mongoose News - The Pirates of Drinax

Just to say, I was considering just getting this as a PDF - I tend to find adventures expendable as once you've run them, they just collect dust and pdfs are easier to print out handouts, etc. However, once I saw the mooted packaging of the set, it quickly changed my mind. Point to say, the quality ...

Re: Point-buy like in Mindjammer for Traveller

As a default these days, I tend towards the 'Roll 12 dice at once and distribute how you like' towards Characteristic generation. You could also set a cap here for a minimum total, to ward off very bad roll. It's still technically random, but it still gives players a point-spend-like influence on ho...

Re: 2300AD - Standalone RPG?

I just see Traveller: 2300AD (which is actually what the label will say, regardless of marketing issues suffered in the 80s, as it will be based on the Traveller system) will make an alternate, hard sci-fi/near future alternative entree into Traveller. It could be used as just an alternate setting f...

Re: Hard Scifi. What is it and why Traveller is Hard Scifi

Traveller, from the very origins of the game, sort to apply scientific ideas towards it's game design. When you have space travel considering the notion of displacement tonnage and calculated formula it's a pretty good way to get people thinking scientifically. The aliens are described by ecological...

Re: Pre-Order the Traveller Starter Box Set

I have preordered it, although I'm unsure about the late pdf release thing. Generally, I think the pdf should come out the same time as the preorder - at least it would avoid confusion.

Re: New to Traveller? What Career to Choose

Well, what sort of game play are you after? If you are coming from D&D, the comparisons between Classes/Careers don't quite fit as there aren't magic users in the game. However, Barbarians - Drifters Bards - Entertainers, Merchants (sort of) Clerics/Healers - Scholars (Physicians) Fighters - Marines...

Re: What happened to Zero-G?

Our group ran a session once where, per chance nobody had taken or received a zero gravity skill. The results of trying to fix a simple malfunction on the exterior of the ship were...Monty Python-esque. Too a whole session to complete.

Re: 2300AD - Standalone RPG?

I'm not arguing that they need to shift the system. I'm arguing that the core book for 2300AD could include all the core rules needed to make it standalone, rather than requiring Traveller core. The actual mechanics themselves could be the same, baring particular differences - like the way space tra...

2300AD - Standalone RPG?

It's a while away yet for the new Traveller 2 version, but I've been giving my current copy of 2300AD (the Mongoose Traveller version) a flick through recently, mainly to pull out a few hard sci-fi ideas for my current Traveller campaign. It has a bunch of good ideas in the text, even though the pre...

I think the key question for me is: will players be able to play robots, or artificial intelligences with good support from the game?

Re: Traveller Plans for 2017

The thing I would also say here is that there really is no rush. The core of the game, along with High Guard, Vehicles and the CSC covers the core of the game well as it is. The optional stuff is good to expand but, for me, if we end up waiting to early next year it won't be any disaster at all. So ...

Re: Traveller Plans for 2017

Some things that I like to see in the Companion: - Robot characters - like Droids in Star Wars, or just A.I.s in starships. - More Alien characters - the ones that didn't get into the core (Droyne, Hivers, etc). - A comprehensive line Index covering _all_ core books. - Genetics - legacy characters -...

Re: RPG Suite

I'm just a customer, but the downloading process essentially just amounts to clicking on download buttons and waiting. Once loaded, characters automatically transfer to the character sheet and are held in a memory bank online and on your machine. The last line is a good thing to suggest, and hopeful...

Another question about Traveller though - any word from the RPGSuite as to whether they will update the Traveller software to include Starship and Vehicle design?

Re: State of the Mongoose 2016

Without being too contentious, I think that much of Legend's fanbase has gravitated over with The Design Mechanism's Mythras - previously called RuneQuest 6, based on Mongoose's RuneQuest 2, not to be associated to Chaosium's RuneQuest 2 and written by the same people who wrote Legend which is still...

Re: State of the Mongoose 2016

A good read. :) The Traveller and Paranoia lines look to have some exciting progress in the next year, which I will be buying into to one degree or another. It was a shame that the 2000AD license was lost, although the explanation regarding miniature games was clear enough. Does that also mean that ...

Re: "Starter" box set, whats in it?

How big will the box be? Will it be LBB size or A4 size? Will it be packed with books n stuff, or will there be airspace to store other books (like adventure modules) in it?
