Re: RQ2 in the Warhammer Old World

From the looks of it in WFRP sorcery the power of the spell is determined by the spell while in MRQ sorcery the power of the spell is determined by the skill of the caster. That has a huge implication for the 'flavour' of magic. For sorcery I would be tempted to say that the curse might be triggere...

Re: RQ2 in the Warhammer Old World

We've a Warhammer Old World campaign going at the minute, using the WFRP2 rulebook as our source material and RQ2 for the rules. The setting translates very well indeed. The cults are pretty straightforward to translate (Sigmar teaches True Hammer for instance). Sorcerers will belong to one of the ...

Re: Closing and Size

Ok. So our good friends Thak and Bek are squaring off once again. Thak has a Target Shield (reach S) and a War Gauntlet (reach T) and 22 initiative. Bek has a one handed battle axe (reach M) and 10 initiative. Thak attacks first with his shield and strikes, but Bek Parries. Next Bek attacks but Tha...

On #1: Do you mean a beneficial or detrimental modifier to firing from concealment? Also, I am not sure what the issue is with targeted locations; the common sense rule leads to situations in which a target behind cover may have portions of his/her body that are effectively receiving total cover; e...

Interesting idea Titus - and I can see where you're coming from.

One idea that occurs off the top of my head - would it be possible for a sorceror to "steal" the POW from an existing enchantment to power a new one?

I once saw an Australian web-site that had a few of the early Edgar Rice Burroughs 'Barsoom' stories on it (written before Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc.). At the time copyright in Australia was 50 years after the author's death. About a month later I went back, only to see a notification that the site ...

You are right in that it is 70 years in the UK... however it is higher in the US. The point being that the US copyright period is what everyone goes by—the financial risk is simply too great. Fair point. Duration there seems to be 95 years since date of publication (for pre-1978 works, which of cou...

One thing that I don't understand: R. E. Howard died in 1936. Why are his stories not now public domain? Also: if not Conan RQ, why not Kull RQ? There is an untested legal issue (which is very likely wrong) at the heart of this. Certain properties are "licensed" to corporations, not individuals (I ...

Well, you could say that even a delaying dual-wielder can't attack and parry on the same SR. I'm not sure that's 100% RAW - given that as you quote at the top of the thread, the rules refer to not using the same weapon for both in the same SR - but it doesn't seem entirely unreasonable.

FWIW I play it as "doing half damage" therefore 11 points blocked by a one-size smaller weapon become 6 damage. That way, you're guaranteed that 1 point of damage will always get through. This is my take too. My logic is that rounding up is done to the final figure. Accordingly whether you "halve t...

I guess what im saying is your game would be very unsatisfying if you allow players to delay and attack simultaneously not allowing there combatant to parry or dodge, but parrying their attack without penalty. Common sense would say either a weapon and shield user can't attack and defend simultaneo...

I've got this book too, but have so far only skimmed. None the less, it is clear that the conversion to RQII is a bit half-hearted. For instance, the NPcs in the Anghara adventure have combat styles but the monsters listed in the Undead Creatures chapter don't (not that it's difficult to deduce them...

Personally, I'm not going to limit the extra CA to an action with the shield/off-hand weapon - for instance I can easily visualise the situation where a combatant feints with the off-hand weapon but strikes with the main weapon. But I do think the extra CA should be limited to attacks/parries/CMs re...

I was thinking along similar lines. Each Elemental Rune having two emanations. I scrapped the entire base runeset and started creating my own. If an existing rune fit in well then I'd use it but otherwise it's gone; as well as redefining what runes belong to a given category. Even for Glorantha I f...

Well, undines should certainly give a boost to your ability to swim. Maybe the ability to breathe under water (although that could also be appropriate for sylphs). For something a bit more bizarre, now about the ability to partially liquidise your body and squeeze through very small spaces?

Lord High Munchkin wrote:How about minimum weapon damage plus normal damage bonus (strength becoming a greater portion of the damage from the close quarter "ruckus", and weapon damage being the abstracted portion)?
I probably wouldn't go that far - my initial thought is something like 1d4 + normal damage bonus.

Thanks for that, Pete. It does make a lot of sense.

I might limit damage done, though, I think - doesn't sound as though a greatsword would justify its 2d8 damage in those circumstances.

One other minor thing... there really doesn't seem to be any peasant background anymore. I realize you're supposed to use the Civilized background for that, but IMO it doesn't fit. No peasant is going to have Courtesy as an automatic skill In a society where you can get killed on the spot for being...

Close quarters fighting with (very) long weapon

On p 92 under the"Weapon Reach" heading - specifically the last para of the the "Closing" subheading - the text reads: "Once within the reach of the opponent's weapon, the advantage switches to the wielder of the shorter weapon. The opponent now cannot parry until he reopens the distance." I read th...
