Re: Control surfaces used by Trav spacecraft in atmosphere

Except for the problem of entering the atmosphere. Counter-Grav only takes you up and down. Nope. Grav drives in MGT take you in any direction. How do you think grav cars go forward? Keep reading my post. A Flying Brick is simply not going to be as controllable as a streamlined aircraft. Le...

Re: Control surfaces used by Trav spacecraft in atmosphere

Except for the problem of entering the atmosphere. And then that would work for a landing on a flat surface as long as you didn't care where you landed. Counter-Grav only takes you up and down. Winds would blow you away from your landing zone. Using the manuever engines would allow you some control ...

Re: Determining Education for Robots

Read the chapter "Robots and the Universe." Robots don't have a Soc in most societies because they are either just tools(Age of Service) or slaves/second-class citizens (Age of Slavery). Most of the time the 3rd Imperium is in Age of Slavery. After that I'd think it would be up to the GM, I'd rule t...

Re: Ideas for Personel Sheilds

That remain's to be seen, to be honest I tend to read mechanics 1st, and I am not sure if I love or hate the expanded vehicles combat rules. And the rules on Power Guns need some play as well to see how they work, they look interesting, but heaven forbid a firefight in a jungle.... Me also, but I'm...

Re: Is there a list of all the weapons range mods?

Now to figure out how to do a lightsabre.... Which IMHO is basically a chainsaw..... . Check out the Arc-Field Sword in the CSC. Description is on page 37, Stats on Page 38. Just change the Fluff Text a bit... Actually, just found the Lightsaber for you; Psionic Energy Sword. Page 84 of the Book4: ...

Re: Computer skill, a thought

While the everyday computer user may not need to know a lot about computers I have no problem with the concept that schools on high tech worlds teaching their children about databases, 3D drafting, writing programs, upgrading, and simple repairs. I know of a certain TL 7.5 world where some schools ...

Re: Computer skill, a thought

There's a difference in having the Computer Skill and using a Computer with Intelligent Interface. As for the Background Skill, nothing in the rules says that EVERY person on that planet has Computer-0, just that All Player Characters have it... In other words, it's a standard skill from that plane...

Re: ComBot Gun Harness, aka SmartGun

Ah, yes. Vasquez' gun. :) Comes complete with dithering, sweating junior officer (with little or no experience) screaming in your helmet comms when things go all to hell! Heh, I used to GM the old Aliens RPG for a short while. First session was an intro to the game using the Pregen versions ...

I'll go look at that book again, though I tell you it makes my eyes bleed, needs an index....
Yea it does...

Sure, but the crew would be immolated long before something akin to asbestos burned.

Re: Control Of Fires

Well, it depends on what's burning. Different materials require different levels of O2. Some fires, once started, are self oxidizing, meaning that they don't require any outside O2 and some chemical reactions that give off heat and are mistaken for Fire don't require any at all. Also, you have to be...

Re: Ideas for Personel Sheilds

Meaning if Hammer's Slammers and Dread can fit into Traveller the rules system, this isn't much of a push. IMO, bad example. As a long time fan of Hammer's Slammers I don't think that Mongoose's is a very good version of it. ;) To be honest I haven't read it, might I ask why you think it fails? The...

Re: Ideas for Personel Sheilds

Personally I think that would be something way over any tech level as presented in the game. For example there is a Repulsor Shield in the Central Supply Catalog and that requires a Backpack for power that is only good for 25 rounds at most. Something like what you see in Halo would, IMO, be a much ...

ComBot Gun Harness, aka SmartGun

This Bot was inspired by a certain smartgun featured in a popular movie about marines fighting some aliens... ;) Combot Gun Harness(aka Smartgun) TL 12: This Combot has a special construction that is much different than most Robots. It is made into a harness to be worn by a specially trained Army or...
