Turrets and Particle Beams

The Errata for High Guard says; Only one particle beam may be fitted to a turret, but this must be a triple turret. Does that mean that no other weapons can be fitted in the same turret? I've seen ships in other books, can't remember exactly where, that had a Triple Turret with a P-Beam/Laser/Sandca...

Re: Does anyone use the Traveller Universe?

I use the Traveller Universe as-is, and I don't house-rule or home-brew anything. And I was wondering if anyone thinks as I do. Same here. Actually, I just started my first MgT campaign and at the beginning I've announced that I'm using the OTU with ALL the MgT books in play but reserve the right t...

Re: Yet another Free Trader deckplan

Hatches and other "doorways" that can be sealed are used for compartmentalization. If you have a fire or hull breach then you need to be able to seal off as much of the ship as possible. So, the suggestion of stairs with a Iris valve at the top would be a good idea. Open stairs that go between decks...

Re: Mortgages & Imperial Dates (especially months)

Yea, that sounds like it would work.

Lots of good suggestions here. For my game though, I'm just going to go with 13 28day months and split the Mortgages up into 520 payments instead of 480.

Re: Mortgages & Imperial Dates (especially months)

As for the mortage, ever since CT the intention is for the ship to paid off in 40 years, so I think maybe split the payments up so that the actual ones are a bit lower but you end up with the same annual pay off schedule. How many mortage payments per year were there in CT? 12 or 13? Anyway, I agre...

Re: Maximum Skill Levels/Maximum Experience

Actually, if you want to go the route of "losing skills" what I'd recommend is something like the following; The Characters gets a penalty for any skill not used in the most recent term. Skills that are used during the last term are those that are listed on the Service Skills, Specialist Skills tabl...

Re: Mortgages & Imperial Dates (especially months)

Well, to give a Real World example the US Navy has maintenance that gets scheduled daily, Weekly, Biweekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-annually, Annually and Every 5 years. Not every system has maintenance at each of those check points but those are the most common ones. Typically the Daily, Weekly an...

Re: Maximum Skill Levels/Maximum Experience

If anything limit terms, once in play advancement is pretty slow and controlled anyway, really don't see the need for a total limit. A limit on how high individual skills can go sure, but that is purely for mechanical reasons. I could care less if a character winds up with a whole bunch of skills a...

Re: Maximum Skill Levels/Maximum Experience

Of course, the real question Why limit the skills? I've seen plenty of characters made with 6 terms and 4 or 5 advancements and I don't think they're so bad.

Re: Has anyone tried running a BSG style campaign opening?

BSG had a few plot holes you could drive a bus through with regard to why they were allowed to escape given that the Cyclons had faster and longer range jump drives and enough base ships to defeat all of the Human fleet. IIRC it was because Baltar expected to become the Ruler of the survivors and t...

Re: Has anyone tried running a BSG style campaign opening?

If they are hopelessly outmatched, only if the enemy were morons would they allow them to travel a few A.U.'s to rest & grow strong again.... Could be lots of scenarios for this. Biggest reason that jumps to my mind would be a logistical problem. Perhaps the main invasion took up so much logistical...

Re: Prizes

This is something that can be a very handy plot device, how much money (or even ship) do you want to give the players? This is the key thing. However much you give the players, make sure that you can handle it. If you give them enough to buy a BattleCrusier, that's perfectly fine, as long as you(Th...

Re: Prizes

The Scoundrels Book has rules about salvage. Typically, for a working ship it is 1/10th to 1/20th of the price. Then it talks about 1/20th to 1/40th for wrecks or just raw metal. So, I'd say it depends on the state of repair of the ship, how old it is and how much a local representative from a Law E...
