It's good that you got a chuckle out of my post. If I couldn't laugh about it, I'd cry....  Seriously, though, the level of description you're championing is exactly what I want to bring to my game. I've tried to do this over the last few sessions and, so far, they haven't really voiced ...

I'd like to do something like this but, sadly, my GMing skills, after almost 20 years of not running any kind of roleplaying game, are really rusty. :? I just started a Conan campaign a little over two months ago and, while it's been going reasonably well so far, the d20 system is complex enough as ...

If you guys wanna PM me with your email addresses, I can send you the map once I get home from work this evening. Be forewarned, though, the replacement map isn't 100% accurate...mainly because of the big river it shows running right through the center of the city. From what I remember, nowhere in t...

Yeah? Tell that to the guy that loses nish, has the Vanir approach him, swing, and kill him in one blow. That guy never gets to act. Killing blows are a bitch, I'll admit. Again, let's look at the guy who, in the third round, is going second after his opponent, and his opponent rolled a cri...

Well, having your initiative "stolen" isn't really that big a deal since the initiative count itself is simply a convenient way for us players to track which characters go when in a given combat round. Going first or before other opponents is really only important during the first round of a confron...

I don't recall seeing anything specifically relating to pole-vaulting in any of the supplements I've read (though, mayhap I've simply forgotten reading it). In any event, I think your instinct to treat a pole-vault attempt as a STR based Jump check is spot on. Perhaps a variable circumstance bonus o...

Yeah, that's pretty much how I read it, S4. Delaying allows you to choose to act later in the current round (i.e., at a lower initiative count*) or earlier in the following round (i.e., at a higher initiative count*). The adjusted initiative count sets your place in the combat order in subsequent ro...

It's only over if you allow it to be.
Well, of course, I was only referring to the production of new material for the game.

I fully intend to play Conan as often and for as long as I can. No doubt about that.

Just did! :D By the way, Matt, a heartfelt thanks to you and all the folks at Mongoose who've contributed to the Conan game line and forum over the years, especially Vince, Eric and Bryan. Truth be told, I was done with the D&D and the d20 system before discovering Conan early last year. Not only wa...

I use Microsoft Office Word '07 at work and OpenOffice at home and haven't any problems using either one to view Empires of the Hyborian Age.

Give OpenOffice a try. It's free to download.

Hope that helps.

My initiative roll was only a 3!"

Pretty much, yeah. Not the best thought out design element on the ol' character sheet. Slightly less annoying with a form-fillable PDF version, though.

My gut instinct would be to say no, he wouldn't...unless it was almost guaranteed that he'd come out ahead on the deal and by a fair margin at that. I think even the slightest hint of being taken advantage of or treated unfairly and the Cimmerian would walk away from the whole thing. As for general ...

The current world record for a bow is 1,336 yards (2,047 yards with a crossbow). Well, bear in mind that's with a modern flight bow built to achieve the greatest possible distance. Medieval longbows had a significantly shorter range, generally around 200-250 yards (though I've heard tell that some ...
