As far as the comment about getting input from the general public to help I do not recall seeing that anywhere on this thread however that's not worth arguing over, I could start prefacing my posts with "This is meant to provide feedback to Mongoose; please consider all opinions here as my request ...

Jadrax thank you for saying that, that's exactly the same thing I've been saying but people haven't paid too much attention to.

Yes I am offended by that, you want people to sit here and listen to your viewpoint but your not willing to consider anyone else's. You remind me of someone I know out here, he always wants everyone to hear his side of the story but the first person that disagrees isn't willing to hear him out no m...

However it looks like people happily glossed over the points I've made about not buying something that offends you. I glossed over it because I find it (no offense) to be a pointless position to take. I want B5 RPG material; I want Mongoose to improve; simply walking away when I disagree (for any r...

Forgive me for being stupid, but why all the offence over positive stereotypes? Feats are, after all, of benefit to the owning player. OK... this is the problem as I see it. Suppose you make a feat (we will call it " Charming ") that grants a fair bonus somewhere. You then state that " only the peo...

These statements 'FIX' in your mind the problem. However, your problem and KDLadage's problem don't match. The problem is not a rule as much as it is the idea behind them. (Hope I am reading your mind right on this one KD) It is scary, Psyclone, but I think you are starting to figure me out... ;)

KD.. I think you forgot the first rule of gaming... and that is ALL RULES ARE SUBJECT TO THE DM'S RULING. Again (and for about the tenth time) I am fully aware of Rule 0. This is not at issue here. The issue is why such a rule would be in the book in the first place, when (in the end) it adds nothi...

I didn't miss the point, however the point I was trying to illustrate is that I did not even give the nationality feats a second glance as far as considering them insulting so if I had needed to justify or explain why i didn't find them offensive, then that in itself would have inferred that they n...

Re: Nationality Feats And the Great Debate

KDLadage, I didn't miss the point. Actually, your responce emphasizes how much you have, in fact, missed the point. A can of worms has been opened up over a touchy subject. What can of worms? A few people on a message baords are asking about a rule included in a recent book that has the potential t...

So many replies... so many that miss the point. Neo: You missed the point that Rich Bowman was attempting to make. I believe he was saying that someone should either state matter-of-factly that they either find it offensive or do not. But to say that they do not, and that they do not only because it...

What would have been ideal is if they had allowed the basic stats to cover these things, which they do, and not added a pile of feats to a system that is already overburdened with them. Feats of Kewl Powerz -- I agree. Feats that aid in the low-level character differentiation... no, I think the gam...

It all depends on how you want to look at it, you see stereotypes as some slur made at real life people, when the actuality of it is, is that it is JUST a game and the characteristics are just there to add to the game and distinguish different nations from one another not to make a REAL LIFE statem...

Its hardly a waste of pages. Just ignore the nationality requirement and keep playing. Nobody is saying that this cannot be done. I think that those who have claimed that this was a bad idea cite that it is (a) unneccessary to limit these feats to specific regions or nations within the rules, (b) s...

Certainly... but this does not answer the question of "why were they included in the first place?" which I would be interested in knowing.

Point of note, I do not believe I ~ever~ said characters should not get to high levels. That would be rediculous. I encourage people to play long and hard enough to reach the upper echelons of power. I only stated that the main characters will not get to 20th level (more than likely) before the end...

Fair enough; the massive damage threshhold rule is a fine one and I know a lot of Games Masters who use it. I am fairly sure it is already slated to be included as a variant in the Companion book for Babylon 5, so that should please you. It does. I believe that is one of the various optional rules ...

My turn. Please. Your insights are always welcome. Okay, the balance check on to-hit bonuses seems fine to me for the classes that get a +10 bonus at 20th level. By that point, a character has transcended normal bounds of effectiveness in their fields and have become well rounded characters with ab...

Oh the fun we could have if you or I just lived closer to each other KD. Prolly a good thing I am in Northern Iowa and your in Southern. In regards to getting nothing for 6 levels. You get two feats, and an ability point increase, and LOTS of skill points. And so does the Diplomat (plus a bunch of other stuff); and so does the Agent (plus a bunch of other stuff); and so does the soldier... ok, you get the idea. This speaks directly ...

Eryx -- in keeping the characters relatively low on the power scale, I agree with you. But the point I think (and I could be wrong here) that the original poster is trying to make is this: d20 games, by default, are games of play and reward. For my play, I am rewarded with XP; for enough XP, I am re...
