Re: Orbital Belts

I'm thinking that at some point you'd want to restrict orbital access to vital traffic, in order not to clutter it up, and if you happen to have a natural satellite, directing the bulk of it there.

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Also, since you have to sell off the armed merchant cruisers after the conflict has ended, in this game fairly guaranteed to last quite a while, compared to real life crises that might be over in six months, you'd want to get as many in as early as possible to maximize your return on investment, tho...

Re: Low Berth vs Fast Drug

I'm not a biologist nor a pharmacist.

But I think it also depends if it's an active ingredient or a passive one.

An active ingredient continually aggravates the body to continue the effect, while the passive one just kicks off the effect and for all intents and purposes disappears.

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

I thought about that. You can embed grav plates on the hull, though you probably have a greater diminishing returns effect, but it seems unlikely that you neutralize the effects of acceleration, though you could conduct operations there like being effected like a strong wind, possibly with magnetic ...

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Could be because I never prioritize research on that subject, Q ships turn up rather late in my timelines. Five hundred tonne weapon bays have to be an odd shape, and would make it easily identified as a preprepped platform. Depending on the era, you could have protected cruisers (and armoured ones)...

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

Fixed mounts for energy weapons seems a chained event, since you have to line up your nose, presumably, with your target, though the targetting computer should be constantly informing you when something could be hit while you're jiggling about.

Re: Gauss Weapons System - Feedback?

Assault rifles are jack of all trades. Wargaming it, you could have assault squads armed with shotguns, much like you had assault sections armed with submachine guns. This is effective when faced with unarmoured troops, at likely close quarters. If you upgun a shotgun, you come out with a grenade la...

Re: Modular hull question

Breakaways need their own bridge equivalents and set of ship systems.

At least according to High Guard.

The most prominent example would be the Star Trek saucer section.

Re: Low Berth vs Fast Drug

That might be too much shock for the system, since it accelerates, as opposed to neutralizing the effect.

Inspiration: Rule the Waves So the Kaiser orders three more battleships, battlecruisers and.or dreadnoughts, which I'm not ready to commit to yet. So I design the most minimalistic predreadnought battleship, which turns out to be a single gunned seven incher weighing in at fifty one hundred tonnes....

You can build in multiple launch bays, that do have one advantage, they can be any size.

Re: Modular hull question

https://woolshedwargamer.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/sup7-tand-g.jpg You'll note no provision was made for bay doors in the classical version, and for the light fighter tender variant, how does the fighter achieve egress and ingress with no access for the current one? Unless the module is basically...

New Experimental US Army Rifle Uses "Telescoped" Ammunition

Belted ammunition probably provides enough separation to prevent cook off for caseless ammunition, as well as visual quality control.

Inspiration: Rule the Waves Building armed merchant cruisers was interesting, since you could only do in wartime, and are forced to sell them off once the conflict ends. However, they're launched in three months. Did I say building? I think it's actually a conversion, though strangely you get to de...

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

Sometimes you want or need to launch your fighters in a hurry; and recover them. http://redraccoongames.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/swx35_preview3.jpg?x63092 But there's a critical mass before you install launch tubes in my estimation, escort carriers and down don't have them, since their air win...

All it needs to be is legal and available in a starport, considering the likely user base.

Though people chasing near immortality seem like customers that can be catered to.
