That does lend itself to a couple of possible plot lines. The old "Noble who is slumming it" approach along with the "Noble who represents whomever is employing the party but isn't letting on just how close he is to them" routine.

It certainly could be interesting. :)

Insane social standing

I'm going to be arriving late for the character generation session for the Traveller game that a friend of mine is GMing. This is the joy of having a new job (it is too soon to suggest that I start and finish a bit earlier then the official hours). So, I decide to throw a high stat into Social Stand...

Do you mean human readable or machine readable? I mean human readable As far as human readable, it is not too bad. Just load it in excel or open office. You then end up with lots of horizontal scrolling, which isn't ideal. Config format is supported in the Python standard library, and there's a top...

CSV is not a nice format, it is even less readable than XML.

I'd probably be tempted to use the Config::General format: http://search.cpan.org/~tlinden/Config- ... ILE_FORMAT

... except I don't know what the state of play for parsers for it is outside Perl land.

I just placed an order with Big Finish, and six double CDs will be winging their way towards me very shortly (well, five will, the sixth hasn't been released yet, I just got to this subscription late). One that that I wasn't expecting, and worried me for a bit before I got the order conformation ema...

I'm trying to build a sector data to SVG graphical map tool. So I'd be interested in contributing to a new format and writing a reference implementation in Perl.

Yup, that's what I thought. It is the first line, with the 5 4 on it, that has me baffled though.

OK, if a key is present, then it needs to be parsed. That is good to know. Thanks.

What about http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Spinwar ... ector/data though?

SEC file format

Is there a definitive guide to the structure of the SEC file format? I've found http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/SEC_file_format , but it just gives an example without explaining what is optional, and what can change. For example, are the column widths fixed? Or does the top section need to be parsed...

I'm working on some software to store and present data about a subsector, I just tweaked the settings to produce a blank sector map.

You can get it at http://www.thecoreworlds.net/traveller/subsector/ - please let me know if anything about it needs changing.

I've just started building my own software for building subsystems.

http://www.thecoreworlds.net/blog/2008/12/subsector/

At the moment it generates a blank subsector map - not bad for an hours work, during which I had to learn enough SVG to produce the thing.

Speaking from a "I've been to these before and am bitter that I can't make this one but won't let it effect this message because I'm a niec guy" point of view: What's worth bringing to these events? Worth bringing the rulebook? If you want someone to sign it :) Are there pre-gens available for the g...

I've no idea what the prereqs for getting a forum here are (a sticky at the top of each one pointing to a FAQ might be good), but if you don't meet them then a couple of options include:

Umm. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0160004/ - yes.

I see Star Hyke has dropped off that page. Looks like that is dead and gone then - which is a shame, since it looks quite amusing.

Re: B5 slipping down the charts?

I can't help noticing that the B5 Forum is slipping down in its placement in the Forum menu. Does this reflect game prioritisation for Mongoose, I wonder? How long will it be before B5 goes in to the Other Roleplaying Games section? More and more time is passing since B5 was well known, and it does...
