Re: Easily creating individual NPC / PC portraits
Actually, you don't need EveOnline if you have The Sims 2 or The Sims 3 already; you can use Create-a-Sim. If you look at the Freelance Traveller article on Shuchithra, the picture is of a Sim. It's a small pic because at the time, I didn't know how to get higher-res than that; now I can.

Re: [Freelance Traveller] September 2013 posted for download
Jeff Zeitlin's review of Spica's Career Book 1 has an issue that I've noticed in other reviews that he has done before - he doesn't seem to take the product for what it is, instead he reviews it in comparison to what he thinks it should be . IMO that is not a good way to write a constructive, usefu...

Re: [Freelance Traveller] September 2013 posted for download
Yeah, I disagreed with his less than stellar review of Mirador. In my opinion, it should be the model for future ship books, and nicely follows in the footsteps of classics like "Safari Ship", taking things farther as you'd expect in a modern RPG supplement. There's definitely room for differences ...

Re: FTL Communication?
The thing to remember about interstellar communications, regardless of the actual method, is that the speed of communication will have an effect on the centralization of control of interstellar organizations - when communication between Headquarters and Ish Kabibble (or the Colonial Office and the v...

A Reminder to Freelance Traveller Authors
If you've ever had anything published at Freelance Traveller - even if it was before we shifted to the monthly magazine format - you're entitled to an "author profile" page on the site, containing a short blurb about who you are and what you do, and an optional picture (200-300 pixels wide - an ID p...

Re: Need Cover Pics, have questionable submissions for them
Re: the Horsehead pic I wonder what the the IISS is doing that far out to Rimward? (the Horsehead Nebula would be about 460pc rimward of Sol, way beyond the Charted Space map!) Actually, given that it's so immediately recognizable as the Horsehead Nebula, I suspect very much that that pic was taken...

Re: Fast Cruiser Designs: Rakasha, Pazuzu, Abishai - Jump 6
Curious though as to why you might have wanted to do such an engine, heh.... Actually, when I wrote it, I was looking at the merchant angle - if I could squeeze more cargo space in somehow, I might be able to do more aboveboard trading and less ... ethically questionable ... trading. The first stab...

Re: Fast Cruiser Designs: Rakasha, Pazuzu, Abishai - Jump 6
Chas, when I wrote the Lyman Drive, I limited it in ways that I thought would preserve game balance - or at least pay lip service to doing so. I'm a little curious as to what you could do with the Rakasha II, Pazuzu II, and/or Abishai II if the IN decided to adopt the Lyman Drive for the Fleet...

Re: Prohibited Items in Ship Searches
I seem to recall a thread in the past that touched on similar questions; my take on it was: Local jurisdiction applies to the mainworld planetary surface, except for the extraterritoriality zone in which the ground component of the starport is constructed. Imperial forces virtually never assist loca...

OK, thanks. That makes them both a bit problematic, as Andrew isn't available to give permission, and I don't have a way of contacting Jesse. And they'd make such nice covers, too.

Need Cover Pics, have questionable submissions for them
I'm starting to put together the August 2013 issue, and was about to go to APOD for another cover when I received an email with two pics in it. The text accompanying them was "Chinglish", ["I find traveller pictures. You have for magazine."] and the styles of the two pics were so radically different...

Re: Skills specialistaion - what is the point?
I observe that the majority of answers to the OP's question center on the rules, though one poster did provide a real-world example of specialization. But nobody has, in my view, actually answered the OP's question. Here's my stab at it: The point of skill specialization is to represent the differen...
