Re: Rethinking Athletics Specialties

The only real argument I see against this - and it's a good one for game playing purposes - is skill specialization bloat. Perhaps it allows for specialization to match the campaign type, but there's potential for skills to be selected that never get used. Realistic doesn't always translate to a goo...

1. Do the standard rules for the determination of long and extreme range apply to these weapons?
Nothing in the rules say otherwise. In my game stunners are short range weapons, so I wouldn’t allow an extreme range attack with one. But that’s just me.

Re: Aslan Background Skills

Playing an Aslan in the Hierate proper is about as appealing to me as a campaign in Core or Massilia. Things are too settled there. The fun is out on the frontier.

Re: POLL: Naval Campaigns

Yatima, the Naval Campaign rules do incorporate running a small ship as much as a large one, although I’m not sure how necessary they would be for a small ship. A lot of the campaign rules are about abstracting the crew and the ships’s performance. Its a good setup for moving through the aspects of ...

Re: Another passage type--slow drugs

Lol. Fast is slow, slow is fast. The rules are pretty light on the idea of how long a Fast Drug lasts, or how often it can be taken, etc. Its really up to the referee. Slow drug always struck me as nothing more than plot device so seriously injured characters could be good to go in a day or two. The...

Re: Referees Only: Where's the cat?!?

A truly epic tale.

I must say, though, that a starship crew that relies on their cat cooperating with expectations to do anything at the time and place you they Expect is, unfortunately, doomed. Source: have owned half a dozen or so cats, including two rescue kitten currently.

The weight of the complete gun (w/o tripod) is 84 lbs. The barrel itself is 24 lbs. Even firing blanks that’s a handful.
Good thing we’re talking about Rambo, then.

I suspect Rambo would have trouble hip firing a fifty calibre.
Even if its loaded with blanks?

I dislike the TNE ruleset, but really like the setting. I’d enjoy a star viking campaign using MgT2 rules.

Re: New referee and--Dear god, the mortgage costs.

I play in a Pirates of Drinax campaign where we don't even track fuel/life support/maintenance/mortgage costs any more. My character did some extensive trading at the beginning and showed that he can easily make more than enough to cover expenses so we just assume that he is trading in the backgrou...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Good stuff, paltrysum. We had a blast with Demons Eye, even though it can be more of a railroad than most traveller adventures. And the Ktiyhui class courier is an awesome little ship, if you don’t need cargo room. A 200 ton ship with jump 3 and 12 points of armor? Yes please. Rip out that luxury su...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

@Old School 1) The psion on Hroal Irontooth's payroll is mentioned, rather oddly, only in the background story of Marine Salvesdes of Treasure Ship . Salvesdes is said to be conditioned to Hroal, after a brief battle between the two, in which Hroal overpowered Salvesdes despite his battle dress. Af...

And yes, AndrewW is correct, I did write The Glorious Empire . I hope you all enjoy it when it comes out. Old School was a proofreader on the project (and inspired dozens of additional ideas during its development), so if anything is wrong with it, we can blame him. So we can't enjoy it before it c...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Random thoughts: 1) I don’t recall Hroal also having a psion in his crew. Where is this mentioned? Couldn’t find it in the book. I did come across his uplifted Ape having two different names. 2) In my campaign, Hroal died rather loudly at the hands of a no name NPC Vespexer Mercenary wielding A PGMP...

Don’t know about the core rulebook ships as much, but the high guard ships are riddled with dozens of errors.

Does anyone know of a space station design spreadsheet similar to the one that’s available for starship design? I used the google sheets spreadsheet that bluekeirnan made several years ago. His last version was 1.9, I think. I’ve updated it to include some of the spacestation options and correct a ...
