Re: 2300AD on Pre-Order
The problem was, the version of Earth presented in the Earth/Cybertech Sourcebook was a pretty nice place, not cyberpunk-y/Bladerunner-y at all. Thus the cyberpunk bits seemed tacked-on and ill-thought out. I have the luxury of designing the Core from the start, and while it ain't cyberpunk (the '8...

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report
Yeah I guess MT2300 might get confusing because many of us are used to MT = MegaTraveller and MgT or MGT = Mongoose Traveller.Colin wrote:I call it MgT:2300, myself...
MGT2300 would be quick to type for me (no colon and less shift-key presses).

Re: 2300AD on Pre-Order
Personally, I ran mostly Troubleshooting-style games, with some military aspects. I always found exploration to be a difficult theme to tackle, which is why I'm putting additional effort into that aspect of the game. This pretty much describes my old campaign also. Military Troubleshooters (mercena...

Re: 2300AD on Pre-Order
.....and the theme of exploration and the unknown was ignored apart from Bayern (which in retrospect was quite a misfit with the rest of the material). I think there was lots of material for exploration and the unknown: ..the most obvious ones.. Bayern : The one mentioned above. Large scout vessel ...

Re: 2300AD on Pre-Order
Edit: Btw, not all old 2300AD covers were of military gear. Quite a few were actually quite civilian in nature. I just counted the covers on my stack of 25 original 2300AD books (I have all of them, but perhaps I missed one lying someplace). Of those 25 (including boxed set covers and the books ins...

Me trying to remember the abbreviation would lead to such things as MGMXYZCC.
MT2300AD or just MT2300? Old versions would thus be T2300 (original release) or 2300 (second release). The AD necessary or not?

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report
And the reason that it was a problem at the time was because it was neither the standard Traveller setting of the time, nor was it the Traveller system of the time (I was there; I remember the outcry). Since the forthcoming incarnation will be using the Traveller system of the (forthcoming) time, i...

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report
Glad to hear this Colin. Congrats. What are the predictions now for a release date now that this is done?
@Ian
Check wiki for a description of 2300AD. I think drivethrurpg still has a free synopsis of the setting also?

Re: College for Mongoose Traveller
Melbourne is your College above supposed to be a 4 year term or something going on during another career? Most people going to "college" do so for 4 years (unless they drop out). Yes there are lots of free time (summer off, vacations), but I have no problem making it a 4year "career" even if you can...

Re: College for Mongoose Traveller
My house rules character generation (I have many "Advanced", more detailed rules similar to MT) includes an Advanced Education career (Academic on second thought seems a better name). It has no basic training. My house rules include expansions on number of specialites per career (not just 3). Instea...

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report
I did have a soft spot for a more radical solution to the astrography problem - which was to drop the 'maximum stutterwarp' threshold to a lower value (5 ly or something) and then paint in the 'old' arms by dropping in conveniently positioned brown dwarfs to recreate the canonical star-to-star link...

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report
It's been a while, yes. The Kafer and Pentapods are on the same Arm? Yes. The "French Arm" was the center piece from the start, but other arms had aliens, included published adventures, and were completely detailed. Primary nations along the French Arm included France, Britain, Germany, and Azania....

Re: Mongoose 2300AD Progress Report
Perhaps a chart could be made that makes the relationship a log curve such that brown dwarfs take a long^3 time without making massive stars take mere moments. just an idea This sounds sensible. There are other problems though with updated star charts. If the map changes significantly, while it may...

Re: It's all about the story
As a referee I think I fall between the Plot and Sandbox versions noted above; a mixture of both. When possible, I have a completely detailed setting prepared. I also have a large campaign story arc ready. But, the players know and often do what they want. Often the players take the story into a muc...

Re: Why is refined fuel so expensive?
My change for Traveller was to make any field processed fuel Unrefined but any good starport (A, B) had fully Refined fuel. Just gathering a belly full of water gave you just water. Ship processors make the water into Unrefined fuel with its jump risks. Players would not normally be able to make Ref...

Don't recall it not going a full season. Wiki says cancelled after one season of 20 episodes. Also the final season episode 1 show was aired, so that puts an end to season 1. Two other shows were later released after the series was cancelled, but they weren't planned for season 1 anyhow. Either way,...

Curfews for those under 18 are the way to go. I was jumped once by a gang walking home from a night out at 4am, the police made me feel like I was the one who shouldnt have been out at that time even though I was heading home. They also did nothing about it and had the gall to ask if I wanted to me...

Damage to your FLGS could be an issue, but I don't think theft from the shelves would be much of a problem. I don't imagine the looters include many folks that like to read, let alone play brainy-geeky RPG and war games. :D This kind of stuff makes me think less of the human race in general. If you ...
