Re: Starports

IIRC, there are no example maps. Initial installations tend to be fairly orderly, with things becoming more jumbled as the port expands, one day this way for some more warehouses, then an expansion of that for some landing pads, with things stuck where they can fit as the port grows and real estate ...

Re: Q-Ship Design

Start off with a merchant hull, my suggestion is the Free Trader, the Far Trader, and the Fat Trader. Make the turrets popups, light on the ammo usage, heavy on the damage. Throw out the deckplans except for the basic deck shape. Carve out some cargo space to keep ammo, brigs, and to provide some to...

Re: Traveller, still popular

My dad is introducing the family to Traveller. He actually got me the core rulebook a few years back and I've been pestering him for a game. Until recently, when he started one up. Yes, a new generation starts... Trained by one of the old ways, from the olden days where the players went "OH SHI-" wh...

Re: The Coffee Maker

WARNING: dTons of Creamer is ridiculous expensive. Just don't expect to get rid of it easily, as most worlds will reject the heathen practice of diluting their coffee. Alcohol does not dilute coffee, it merely enhances it. Naw, you keep around as a field expedience explosive precursor.......

Re: Portable Dyson Sphere What?!

Ah, the state of the game... We've been mining radioactives. Good quality ones too, so we've been getting a good price for them. Most of said radioactives are in planetoids. But we also have been auctioning off the mined results, which has lead to the belter's version of a stock exchange. For ores. ...

Re: Library Data VS skill

I know the blank sub-sector maps exist, but does anyone know of an entire blank sector map? Then I could print on large scale paper, filling out the larger systems they might have in their library date, and some systems that only have a couple of notes, maybe even a designation number as apposed to...

Re: Navy to Begin Tests on Electromagnetic Railgun Prototype

The railguns they are working on are meant to be main armament for a ship, in some ways to replace the anti-ship missiles and land-attack missiles. Though in theory there is no reason why the tech couldn't be scaled down for smaller gatling-type point-defense weapons. They gotta get the power requi...

Re: Looking for a setting

You can always make your own setting... That's what people did before GDW came out with the 3I and AD&D came out with the Forgotten Realms, BlackMoor, Ravenloft... You get my point. Published settings, while wonderful (IMHO, especially for idea mining...), are, in some ways, a crutch. You can transf...

I have news! This article has been updated at the request of Mr. Zeitlin, and will be appearing sooner or later. Just don't expect it to be credited to my real name. Expect such things as the half-pint, the single ton, cargo lots of whatever-it-is-that-heathens-put-in-their-coffee, a few adventure h...

Portable Dyson Sphere What?!

Sorry for the absence (Don't worry FreeTrav! I'm working on the article now that I succeeded my Inspiration roll!). But anyways, my family started a game recently. My dad (who is an old hand at Traveller) is Refereeing, while me, my older brother, and my little sister are the players. Dad is referri...

Re: Size of Vehicles (for deck plans)

You have to extrapolate. Usually, vehicles are 1, maybe 1.5 dtons height (less than 3meters, to 4.5meters.). Now, most vehicles are longer than they are wide, and width and height are usually right about the same. So, a vehicle might be only a few dtons in terms of raw space, but once the dimensions...

Re: Star System Generation

You can generate a basic star system (presence of gas giants, main world, various bases) using the rules in the main rulebook. Scout has some more advanced rules, but not too fancy (like the type of sun). We've been begging for a full out system/world creation book for quite a while now.

Re: Character Generator

My dad did the same thing in the early days of Traveller. He had introduced something to Mark Miller that the guy liked, but when he (my dad) told Mr. Miller about the character generator that he had made, he got threatened with a lawsuit.
No idea what it's going to be like nowadays.
