Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

Regarding weapon skills, I find it clutters a game really fast, if one adds too many options. I agree. That’s also the exact same reaction I had when reading your thoughts on medical skills, and on an skill based specifically on one’s profession. This is why I don’t think Mongoose should spend much...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

If we’re looking for something to add, the “Alternate Traveller Creation” Chapter of the Companion is only twelve pages, and addresses all of the issues folks have with Traveller’s lifepath system. I can see a free re-roll or two, or chosing the skill list after you roll, etc., but if you have to ge...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

So. Right. Where are we up to with the wishlist of updates for the core rulebook? Retool the character generation flowchart, check. Index, check. Trade game revamp? Dogfighting? Something about possibly removing the subsector and replacing it with stuff? Er, firearms which look like firearms? Matt ...

Re: Dodging vs. Parrying clarification

I’m good with all that. Dice pool systems are interesting, but someone with no training not having a parry option is fine with me. The 8+ to hit already assumes (IMHO) the defender doesn’t want to get hit. A bonus for dodging is not because they are the only characters that can dodge, its because th...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

It will have an official name given by Matt, but here on the interwebs, we'll probably call it MgT2.1, or something like that.

Re: Dodging vs. Parrying clarification

With the rules as written, there will certainly be travellers that are better at dodging and those that are better at parrying, as you've pointed out. It sounds like you want eliminate the characters ability to dodge. You could rule that the last successful hit by the opponent knocked the traveller ...

Re: Solomani Front - eBook & Pre-Order

That's because they understand orbital mechanics... But not, apparently, atmospheric entry. Orbital velocity at the edge of Jupiter's atmosphere is over 40 km/s. Even at the thermosphere, that's some serious drag on your only-so-streamlined free trader. And I hope you like your unrefined fuel hot.

Re: Solomani Front - eBook & Pre-Order

Probably both, but definitely about a 1G ship having no problem taking off on a high-G world. Yeah, but no lifters is an issue for refueling at large gas giants. No civilian ship would be able to handle Jupiter at 2.6 G. And based on exoplanet research Jupiter is only near the lower mass distributi...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

Matt, Since you're changing the layout of the book: my humble request would be to offer PDF versions that eliminate the background patterns on the pages. Like having layers, and two versions of the CRB - one where the background is turned on by default (and can be switched off) and one where the de...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

A table with height and weight depending on homeworld gravity would be useful. Being born and living on a 0.7G world, 1G or 1.2G world shouldn't give the same results. It could include characteristic mods depending on homeworld gravity And mods for operating in another range of Gravity. Great sugge...

Any plans to develop any of the outlying sectors? The Beyond, Vanguard Reaches or Far Frontiers? More would be awesome!
Man, you just got the Solomani Front today! You need more already? :D

Re: Solomani Front - eBook & Pre-Order

I’m also sure a bunch of people are gonna be very happy to see the whole “landing in higher gravity then a ship’s M-drive rating” issue resolved (p.184-186)! Simple solution (and perhaps something to add to the revised core book?). Huh. I always thought it was 'lifters' built into the hull, like on...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

Although, I'm well into the equivalent of Term 10 and certainly not Rank 6. Or 5. Or... never mind. . . . You could even generate enough connection skills and skill package skills to have a marginally capable bunch of 18 year-olds, if you really wanted to. Might be better than a bunch of jaded 58 y...

Re: Travellers Needed - Pirates of Drinax Reprint

Funny you should mention that. That's exactly how one of my players interpreted the encounter. He said something like, "Oh, she's just lowballing us because she thinks we're as gullible as Aslan males." The players negotiated a higher price with a few Persuade and Broker checks. And yes, Old School...

Re: Skill awards during character generation.?

I’ve always allowed the roll during term 1. The text is carried over from MgT1, and the example in that book has a first term roll.

And if the author tells me I’m wrong, I’m still rolling in term 1.

Re: Travellers Needed - Pirates of Drinax Reprint

Change the way mongoose draw deck plans. I know the ‘3D’ view is intended to be an improvement and more appealing. But they are the ugliest most useless things in any of the books. What is wrong with producing beautiful scale drawings with 1.5m grids in monotone 2D. With all the lovely graphic art ...

Re: Travellers Needed - Pirates of Drinax Reprint

Book 1, page 81 "Galx also reports that four Vespexers are missing" . NOTHING in the book reveals the fate of those Vespexers. What's happened? I see this as being left to the referee's discretion, rather than an omission. Some mysteries don't get solved. You're given the most likely answer. Changi...

Re: Travellers Needed - Pirates of Drinax Reprint

As an active GM of the campaign, I would like to see an index and a compilation of all occurring NPCs, including their stats as a reference booklet. The latter could be purely digital of course. But currently its painstaking to find information for main NPCs, such as Princess Rao, who appears in th...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

"And of course...the 3D starship maps are lovely but plan views would be nice too."

The B&W PDF of the Core Rules, which came included when I bought the PDFs on DriveThruRPG, includes 2D ship plans. Would be really nice to have these for all the books, but, alas. . .
