Re: Actually GMing RQ

Opposed roll combat. I've played RQ for long enough that this was really difficult to get my head around. I use my own variant where if you make your parry/dodge but lose the contest you get a partial success. I also ended up letting characters declare reactions after seeing the results of an attac...

For those who have had the spellbook for a while now, and, ideally, has had a chance to put it to play, whats the verdict on it ?

Questions about becoming an initiate

Is 5 successfull skill tests a bit steep ?

For a cult like Urox (which teaches all weapon skills) would you let someone go through all of his weapon skills (even the ones at starting level) ?

Still, one could tell that Merc was truly from the heart of GDW's wargaming background -which, since this was...1978? pretty much where we all were from too. well, look a things that came later. Striker is one of the most hardcore mini's games out there. Mega-traveller combat is basically a mini's ...

Can you give an idea of what the stats for a domain might look like ? Will this cover everything from a small duchy or fiefdom up to a big empire? Strategic warfare ? (as opposed to hte more tactical mass combat in Legendary Heroes) On that note.. any legendary abilities that influence your empire ?...

Initially it was some good things and some bad things.
As the line has gone on though, its become better and better. Excellent authors in most cases, tons of nice options and material.

When Empires comes out, I may well settle for MRQ as my default fantasy game over RQ3

I can see Delerium's point, though. Previous editions (by and large -- I won't say there aren't exceptions) had a much more scientific feel (IMHO) than some of the new tech listed in Mercenary . Weapon stats seemed truly researched by war-gamers/simulationalists as compared to created by writers (a...

Runequest Empires. Psyched

If this book turns out half as good as Im hoping (and with the author in question, I find it hard to believe it wont be awesome) I may well settle on MRQ as my default fantasy game

Yeah, I think I'll end up just passing on this one. Pity though

EDIT: I'll try it out to see how it works. Seems more trouble than gain though, except in some very narrow circumstances
