Use excess heat to run steam turbines to generate electricity?

I give a TL bonus/penalty to anti-missile systems (+1/-1 for every TL difference).

The speargun on page 103 of the CSC uses Gun Combat (Slug Carbine) as the required skill. This will be the default skill for the advanced spearguns I'm designing now (along with a few other items). Yes Rust, I did take your request seriously. I'd already be done, but there isn't a lot of applicable ...

I don't believe the salary table is for skill 0 characters. I treat these salaries as being for a skill level of 2-3. I knock off 25% of the normal salary for each skill level below 2, and add 25% for each skill level over 3 (Maximum +50%). Steward-0 would only get 1,000 credits/month and Steward-5 ...

The Steward on a starship is more than a waiter. A steward does everything for the passengers. The smaller the ship, the more that the Steward is responsible for. Except on passenger liners, the Steward is usually cook, maid, entertainment director, a fourth for bridge etc., even a medic sometimes. ...

The rules don't allow this. Traveller doesn't have RULES. Travelller has GM suggestions. Campaigns have RULES (The suggestions that the GM accepts.). All of the above has been the prime tenet of RPGs since the 1970's. There are no hard and fast rules, just a bunch of suggestions that are organized i...

Statistical averages are useless when applied to individuals. Everything is a bell curve. What many people refer to as stereotypes, are actually derogatory parodies, not stereotypes. A stereotype is just an average snapshot of a group, and is rarely an accurate representation of a single group member.

I've seen the blue-green lasers used as sensors, and noticed that the beam was easily visible. My concern with a weapons grade laser was that there would be so much side-scatter to the beam that it would release a tremendous amount of heat right in the user's face. Is there a laser frequency that wo...

Underwater Lasers

If you used a green laser underwater that was powerful enough to be used as a weapon, what would the actual result be? Would the laser flash heat the water in it's path, making it completely useless as a weapon and a danger to the operator? Would the laser actually work just fine? Or some other resu...

Of course if you go to space with an Aslan, emergency rations won't be a problem (for the Aslan).

I make ship shares 5%, but I limit characters to no more than 5 ship shares each. Usually they end up owning about 1/2 the ship. This keeps the payments down but gives me opportunities to mess with them etc..

Israel is fielding a Tank mounted anti-missile system called Trophy. It detects incoming missiles and shoots rockets at it.

At a higher TL than now you could have a laser system, or even a 4mm gauss system.

I like the idea.

Make up some good ones, so I can claim to all my players that it was originally my idea (Since it's a good one.). Any bad ideas I have, I claim I that I got them from someone else, and I'm working on improvements.

Rust, have you considered this weapon:

The APS Underwater Assault Rifle (APS stands for Avtomat Podvodnyy Spetsialnyy (Автомат Подводный Специальный) or "Special Underwater Automatic [rifle]")

There is Youtube stuff and a Wikipedia page.

It's a 26-shot underwater rifle.

Gauss Harpoon?

No bubbles like the gas-launched versions I'd guess.

Have to think about it and do some research on state-of-the-art stuff. Never considered underwater equipment.

Just about any weapon can have a tripod or vehicle pintle mount made for it in real life, so I don't see any reason not to do it in the game. How about this: Light Tripod/Pintle Mount (TL 6): Reduces recoil by 2. Used for weapons up to 15 kg. Cost: 150 credits Weight: 8kg Heavy Tripod/Pintle Mount (...

If stunners prove to be a problem in your world, introduce Stun Shields. Stun Shields would stack with armour vs Stunners, and be completely ineffective against other weapons. This would be a reason that the police still use firearms. On a high law level planet where the police only use Stunners, St...

The greatest advantage of the Imperium is it's size, this is also it's biggest problem. A single world with sufficient population and resources is capable of ANY technological development. The problem with small size is production capability. Just because a single world has a TL of 15+ doesn't mean ...
