It's in safe hands with you, Loz. Glad it wasn't just me that hated Turtledove's rubbish. :)

I would love to hear some of the issues that were bandied about with the creation of the RPG but I can understand that it's probably best left to decipher on our own, based on what was printed. I'm happy with the limited inaccurracies but I am not a purist since I enjoy numerous pastiche products -...

IIRC wasn't Baal-Pteor a strangler of Hanuman in that story? You can blame me for Coming of Hanuman bit as well if the name is wrong! I edited it.

Guess you're not a football fan. My bad. I figured everybody your way had heard of Jerry Jones.

Good points by all but I think you are incorrect in your description of CPI and Fredrick Malmberg, Mr. Bear. I met and talked to Fredrick at the '06 centennial celebration at REH's house in Cross Plains and he expressed a sincere desire to focus on REH's Conan and REH's prolific storytelling as a p...

I just don't think the legal rights should even brought up in a forum like this. Who cares what some Fred has to say? Maybe you all who know the dude, but I would rather judge all Conan by how it reflects, not refurbishes, Howard. "Some Fred"? Seriously, you're from Texas, and Austin probab...

When you own the rights you can make anything canon that you want to. That's a reality I had to come to terms with 4 years ago. I have to totally disagree. Strom is right. If you own some legal rights that were passed along the capitalist byway, then you can decide what is canon "officially." Canon...

When you own the rights you can make anything canon that you want to. That's a reality I had to come to terms with 4 years ago. I must be misunderstanding you JOB. CPI - Malmberg - bought the licensce and then published the unedited Conan stories first to reintroduce Conan and Howard to a new gener...

I agree with Axerules - there is Howard and then there is everyone else. Movie, animated Aquilonia, prose stories - they all fit into one category - and that is pastiche. There is only "one" bible of Conan and that is the Sprague-less unedited Conan stories in the 3 Del Rey books. The stories in th...

I don't like to think of LSDC/LC (or any pastichers') writings as "accepted Conan canon", but I don't wanna start an argument nor a worthless flame war about it, so we can just agree to disagree on this. 8) It took me quite a while to get my head around the fact that people other than me were makin...

Counterpoint though, Venarium in REH was when Conan was 15. It was his first battle and that would be when Conan isn't a youngster but a full grown adult. Certainly a new adult with some growing to do but Conan wouldn't be remotely a youngster at Venarium in the eyes of his fellows. There's no teen...

I disagree with that, if you mean Conan at 12 could KILL an adult male Cimmerian, All he has to do is slip in the knife in the right place and kill him. Of course, if you mean that Conan as a better warrior than a full adult then probably not. Then again, I have no difficulty believing Conan of REH...

There are a group of us that are working on various variants, I personally am working on a Star Wars one. I'm guessing that you already know that while you can do a non-commercial Star Wars version you couldn't sell it. I think a lot of the questions are centred around producing under the OGL comme...

Essentially this project was my baby when I was at Mongoose, and the decision to go late war was entirely mine, based on solid commercial reasons. 44-45 is the big seller (the numbers don't lie) and I wanted this game to succeed. If the first game bombed then there would be no supplements. I put tha...

I just recently read Conan of Venarium and fundamentally agree that it doesn't present an accurate picture of the Cimmerians. Frankly, the simple fact is that the Cimmerians are too civilized and live in too much of a settled existence to accurately be called Barbarians by any stretch of the imagin...

Many of the races do suffer from the caricatures of the period when the books were written, however. I do agree with you, JOB. I always picture Feng the Khitan as some sort of Peter Sellers style villain, for example. It's a bad example: The Curse of the Monolith (aka Conan and the Cenotaph )...

The excellent thing about Hyboria is that Howard designed a vast background encompassing so many different races, which is why the series has been able to flourish, because the settings are varied enough to give the stories some unique flavouring. Many of the races do suffer from the caricatures of ...

Yes, fantasy movies are pretty much universally populated by white people, although the genre is a European/American one so perhaps that isn't surprising. We may be multicultural now but with the exception of the latter centuries of the Roman Empire there aren't many examples in history to fall back...
