even conan often had to use a ally or retreat to find a sorcerrers soft spot to slay him  mages were very, very powerful and by design and pact not thought of as mere humans  Even with a half-baked hypnotist like the Magus of the Sons of Yezm, he was in deep trouble until Nanaia screa...

I've always felt that Howard intended magic to be a dark and dangerous undertaking. One that required the selling off of bits of a person's soul in order to gain greater power. The standard form of D&D magic would never capture the feel of this loss of self. I cannot wait to see S&P 3 to get an ide...

When he gets promoted to general of the army of Khauran, Conan is put into plate which he subsequently removes before the battle against Natohk. Yeah, though apparently he would have worn plate for the initial battle in The Hour of the Dragon, had he been capable of fighting. I took this to mean in...

Yeah. I agree, generally. There are good aspects even to that story, but generally it's not one I was keen to re-read to see if there were any insights into the Hyborian Age I'd missed the first time! If we accept the standard chronology, though, Conan had just lost Belit at the time of the VoLW --...

(forgive my memory if I am mixing authors here....) I do recall there being mention of chain mail and a chain shirt covering his torso is about as heavy as Conan wore. but I dont recall any plate mail being used. When he gets promoted to general of the army of Khauran, Conan is put into plate which...

Perhaps it can be looked at from this angle.... Is there enough Howard material alone to support a game lisence? Rulebook. A few setting/kingdom suppliments. etc. How much time will it take to look up facts to be sure that info is Howards and not someone elses before it goes in a book and would it ...

The Blade of Conan was a collection of articles that orginally appeared in the old Conan fanzine AMRA. The fanzine was published from the late 60's through the mid 70's. I was a bit young for Amra, although I read a couple of issues. The question is, how does it stand for canon? Is it the opinion o...

The more interesting de Camp and Carter material might well make for a good supplement or two, though. By that I am assuming you mean the stories written about Conan after he becomes king. Don't forget that Sprague de Camp and Carter contributed City of Skulls in the Lancer release of Conan. They a...

Is it better than Stygian steel then?
Yes.
Hopefully I can find my copy of Blade of Conan that included an article on the various levels of technology in the Hyborian age. If I find it I'll put up an abridged version.
Sounds good. That's one I haven't read.

Given the time period that the stories are set in, and the fact that weapons smithing is so advanced, here is my take on why the weapons made in Akbitana are so advanced over those made in other areas. The smiths use a secreat ingredent, added to the forge fires and coated to the iron while forging...

Luckily (or sadly) I am the only one in our group that has read any Conan stories. This gives me a little free reign as to what to slip in and out without the players knowing. Howard, Lin Carter, and De Camp seem like good material. I gathered from the article though that the later two are Conanati...
