Re: What skills have you dropped?

You can get a Level 1 skill in your first term thru a promotion or event.

And don’t forget the Background skills - typically 3 additional 0-Level skills (depending on EDU).

Re: MgT2 Ship Design Speadsheet Walk-through

I was thinking of optional systems like manufacturing plants, refineries and the like. It would be handy if there was a way to include them in the calculations, even if it’s just a set of user-defined cells that get summed up with everything else.

Re: MgT2 Ship Design Speadsheet Walk-through

Finally found time to play around with the spreadsheet a bit. I think I found a bug in the Stealth calculator - the macro seems to be looking at Column A (0, 0, 12) and not Column B (0, 1, 2), since it will only return a result of "None" or "Superior." Otherwise - do you plan to add space station sy...

Re: How many skills to describe a competent character?

Yes. Currently the players are under contract to an Imperial company building an orbital space facility for a low-tech non-Imperial world which just overthrew its previous government (oligarchs descended from a lost 2nd Imperium task force). Their job - on paper- is to provide security and support t...

Re: How many skills to describe a competent character?

When I want rock stars instead of skilled joe’s, I modify the creation rules 2 ways: stats are rolled with 3d6, dropping the lowest die. (we put a cap on the total stat scores, beause the system will occasionally give you someone too strong even when you’re intentionally making hthem strong). Then ...

Whereas I avoid them because i’m absolutely lousy at writing them. :(

Did the Traveller Companion get bumped from the release schedule again? Didn’t see it when I checked just now.

Re: MgT2 Ship Design Speadsheet Walk-through

For the big ships I agree. It’s doable for small ships like far traders and such. I’ve been experimenting with a one-page form in Excel for my own use in space combat; it works OK for smaller stuff but not larger vessels.

This is beginning to sound like a very thick collaborative Referee's Guide with lots of tables.
I’d buy that, I think. Solar just seems like one of those technologies that should be ubiquitous in a high-tech setting once the costs become competitive with other power-generating tech.

Re: MgT2 Ship Design Speadsheet Walk-through

Wow! I’ve got to try this out!

One question - will this also create a summary report? I’m thinking of something (a half-page to one page) that one could give to the players (who may not want or need all the details) or used for space combat purposes.

Re: High Guard 2e - Solar Panels

Adding to that - it’s reasonable to assume that even with the most advanced materials there would be some wear and tear over time. So some allowance for that - maybe just that for X dtons of solar sail you need so much of an allowance for repair drones - would be a good idea.

So now I’m picturing a company painting an asteroid to do just that - with an enormous replica of the corporate logo to remind everyone just who brought the world the not-Apocalypse..... :)

Hmmm... The courier drone has better armor than the recon drone. Must be a rough neighborhood!

I like the variety though. This an area that could use some additional detailing....

Re: High Guard 2e - Solar Panels

Slightly different topic - there’s been proposals to use high-albedo coatings applied to asteroids to force them (very gradually I assume) into a different and presumably less dangerous orbit. Given the low thrust calculated for solar sails, is that idea even remotely possible?

Re: Laboratory Ship Fuel Tanks

If you're focusing on astronomy or planetology or similar sciences, being able to put the labs in the nose of the ship might be a plus. It might also make sense if you're trying to isolate your experiments from inputs from the ship's systems. Or - maybe for security? Keep those pesky absent-minded s...

Re: Starport facilities

Another thought - visit the website of a major airport and look at the businesses and services it promotes, both on the passenger services and on the commercial sides. Many of these won’t translate directly into a starport setting but they may give you some good ideas.
