Re: New Common Magic Spells

You're definitely on the right path with 'Boon' or 'Artisan's Boon' etc. I was thinking of everyday magic, so "Brewer's Boon' or ''Weaver's Boon' etc is the kinda thing. I think, however, that a torturer may use something a bit more specific, like a slow release Wrack spell or something. I'ld probab...

Re: New Common Magic Spells

I would add in a 'Boon' spell, looking at 'Mason's Boon' and 'Arrowsmith's Boon' for a template. Don't make it one spell, but rather an almost infinite number of specific Boon spells (of which 'Arrowsmith's Boon' and 'Mason's Boon" are just examples). This way you can practically cover most Common M...

Re: New to Legend but crazy enough to try and run for 20 peo

The main hurdles I have faced is the relatively unknown nature of the system since it's not the market leader. I guess people have told you that combat can be more gritty than some other rpgs. I don't want to be preaching to the converted, but melee combat can take its toll on player-characters pre...

Re: Combat Styles

I think one of the perks with MRQ/LEGEND is having combat styles as opposed to separate weapon skills. I can definitely see the pros and cons for both approaches, and as an old AH RQ3 player I'm pretty much used to separate weapon skills. However I do like what I read about combat styles in the MRQ2...

Re: Different New "of Legend" Settings

For a generic fantasy world, what's wrong with using the Wraith Recon setting? It ticks most of the boxes from the little I've read (I only got it a week or so ago and haven't had the chance to read through it properly yet). There is no reason I can think of why players have to be WR teams. They co...

Re: Different New "of Legend" Settings

Personally I still want to see a Legend adaptation of the Conan RPG - the game is perfect for traditional swords & sorcery action. Indeed, I think that it probably does pulp fantasy better than high fantasy... Yes, the CONAN idea has certainly arisen before, and it is a good one. Mongoose did an ex...

Re: Battle Magic

Another way of doing low magic is to give the common folk (and beginning pcs) a choice of religious/mythological figures within the same pantheon to which the characters provide some level of private worship - depending upon the setting, this could range from one patron, through to 1d4 or 1d6 patron...

Re: Player's Handbook for AoT?

I reckon my players would expect to look at my GM copy, however a reasonably priced pdf could be the trick. Personally I wouldn't spend much time on it, and get to focusing on more meaty products. It's a great setting, a players pdf might go a long way, but I don't know if the hard copy would be suc...

Re: Legend Blowing Off Shelves!

A second printing should have a rehaul of some of the magic rules (no longer in the shadow of previous RQ tropes), and perhaps a limited run of a hard cover edition (perhaps keep it digest sized for consistency). Just throwing it out there yet again Matt heh heh This is all good news for us. I for o...

Re: Battle Magic

For many years I have GM'd the Gloranthan setting in a manner similar to how Prime_Evil described in his first reply, describing the bulk of Common Magic as being more in the way of cantrips and folk-lore practices. I never allowed any of the beginning PCs to have more than a 1pt Magnitude Spell per...

Re: Legend for just $1!

I don't mind having a digest hard copy for the gaming table, and the cheap pdfs are just mothers milk, but I do hope there will be a hardcover edition of the core rules (& core rules supplements) at some stage, even if it's a limited run...it will look so much more 'weighty' in my bookcase, I just l...

Re: DIFFERENCES

Well, there is a pdf describing the changes in detail between MRQ2 and the new LEGEND book, and you can grab it from here: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/rpgs/legend/legend/legend-core-rulebook.htm However, I would just suggest you buy the actual LEGEND core rules whilst it is so cheap at Driveth...

Re: LEGENDS Setting query

Yes, I read that you suggested this to someone else on the forum in another thread, but I read it after my post and I forgot to come back and delete mine -sorry to bother you with a request like that. No doubt many of us will be keeping our eye out for the next State Of the Mongoose to get a feel wh...

LEGENDS Setting query

Just a query: Is Glorantha the only setting that LEGEND isn't covering out of the preexisting MRQ2 settings? I'm glad DM is keeping Glorantha alive, but I'm quite interested in pretty much all the other Mongoose settings actually. So the Elric, Deus Vult, Age of Treason, and WraithRecon lines are al...

Re: Legend for just $1!

As I mentioned on BRPCentral forums, first LEGEND core rules pdf for $1, then LEGEND Monster book for half price also at DrivethruRPG, it's kinda like getting a drink on the house followed by happy hour! I'm very impressed, it's off to a good start. Even if the current MRQ2 players keep their hardco...

Re: Legend for just $1!

Well I wasn't going to get the LEGEND core rules as I already have MRQ2, but I was going to keep supporting the product line for the MRQ2/LEGEND setting sourcebooks. But for $1 how could I NOT get this pdf! So I grabbed it, because I was interested all the same. Now I may even buy the core rules jus...

Yes I've often thought of something like this, but never got around to doing it myself. You'ld have to be careful not to make it too fiddly, but other than that, the concept is sound enough I suppose.

Re: Legend - Core Rulebook Now Out + Open Content Info

I see that Amazon.com has LEGEND listed as a paperback. If Matt is reading this, I am wondering if there are any plans to release it as a hard cover? I loved the MRQ2 Hardcover products, and I loved the Age of Treason hardcover, it would be nice if the LEGEND core rules follow suit, or if all the LE...

Re: Magic of Legend

A "Nuclear-lite" option might be grouping thematically similar magics into Grimoire-style skills, with properly fluffed names of course: Hunter's Rites: Bladesharp, Multimissile, Bandit Cloak. Blessing of the Mountain King: Bludgeon, Protection. The Evil Eye: Befuddle, Disruption etc... Excellent f...
