I think that in matters such as Strength or speed contest, both athletic skill and the characteristic should be used. IMO rolling under your skill and gettting a critical if you roll 1/20th and a special if you rolled 1/5th is simpler, easier, and better. Rolling doubles is IMHO even better. I don't know why MRQ didn't choose to include this, maybe the designers felt that it would conjure comparisons with Unknown ...

New Sorcery has split Multispell in Target and Combine skill, which is fine, but it does not use the new Sandy Petersen's rules. A pity, since they fit Glorantha better than this form of ruleset. I'm also a big fan of Sandy Petersen's sorcery rules, but I think those rules are too difficult to lear...
