An issue I have with Sorcery is the difficulty to get manipulation effect levels when using more than one Manipulation effect. My first idea to solve my problem is to allow one to "trade" effect levels for Manipulation levels. For instance, If I have a 76% Grimoire skill and I want to fly a SIZ 3 ob...

I had a similar idea some time ago : use the 10s on the d100 roll as a "Degre of Success"... Then, I used this for every aspect of the game. For instance, damage was DoS+weapon bonus. Interesting idea. It has some knock-on effects that need to be ironed out, though, such as, how do you figure if a ...

Why would you restrain yourself to Sorcery ? I had a similar idea some time ago : use the 10s on the d100 roll as a "Degre of Success". On a critical roll, the die was read as a "10". In case of a skill above 100, the 10s above 100 were added to the DoS. Then, I used this for every aspect of the gam...

I see 3 ways to use opposed rolls in MRQ2 : First option : You can state that parry roll needs to beat the attack roll in order to block any damage (that was more or less MRQ1, revised). Second option : You can give an extra Combat Maneuver to the winner of the roll. If this sounds too deadly for yo...

What about having "Basic" Combat styles and "Advanced" Combat Styles ? Basic Combat Styles would be simple weapon combinations like the ones in MRQII rulebook. Advanced Basic Styles would cover military training and fighting schools. For instance, a Edo period training samurai training in a school w...

Re: Do you add CA for two weapon / shield use?
Don't forget that if you remove the extra action, 2 handed weapons become incredibly good, as they deal more damage than 1 handed ones, and are as good as shields for parry due to their size. Logic dictates the extra CA stands but has to be used for a parry only, and i encourage my players to use a...

Re: alternate combat system
The only problem I'm having is sorcery. The multiple combat actions it takes to customize the spells features have me stumped. I'm not sure how to go about intergrating it. What about the following rule : In order to cast a sorcery spell, one has to gather a number of concentration tokens equal to ...

I'm also not in favor of caps for Resilience and Persistence. Yet, I think that an "optimum" level for all skills would be a good thing. It would be based on starting skill percentage (Base x2 or Base x3, for instance) and experience rolls would be replaced by a roll under the difference between act...

It's the healing salves that really annoy me. What sort of idiot came up with them? Why not just give people more hit points in the first place? Actually, Hit points in D&D are very close to the concept of "Action Points" from HeroWars/HeroQuest : an abstract measure of one's status in a fight, and...

I live in Australia. Definitely RQ is more Euro though. It's a shame because D&D over-shadows so much and it just isn't that good. I don't know how it's like in the reste of Europe, but in France RuneQuest is ridiculously small compared to D&D. Glorantha is seen by most people as a very complicated...

Re: It certainly does seem to need a tweak...
There is too much of an advantage for large weapons now. One way we've addressed it is to make both attacking and parrying with a weapon that is two sizes larger than your opponents weapon much less effective if your opponent has closed on you. You parry as if your weapon were a staff, and your att...

25-50% is considered "Competent" and 50-75% is considered "Professional" according to the rules (page 33). In my view, those adjectives are meaningless. Think that an untrained average character in MRQ2 has a skill around 21 to 25% in a base skill. Is it legitimate to think a character with 5 or 10...
