sigh, wading in, the Defiant was one of only a small number of ships if i recall, 3 was it, that were deemed unsuitable for whatever reason, think they had dodgy power management or somethign. the defiant got the romulan cloak, and initially a romulan tech dude. there were never supposed to be more...

was written by william shatner, set after star trek generations. on novels yes they did (one improved over the earlier defiants), also would make sense that if the prototype did the rest would. this wa also a matt black spec-ops defiant. I see... Mr Shatner's fan-wank given the legitamcy of his sta...

well its form novels as well, pretty much any cloak can be detected with plot power. also didnt the romulans know how to track the defiant under cloak again due to emissions. they may be low but if you know what to look for you can find it. I'm pretty sure the Defiant made at least one sojourn into...

I think you're dealing with the Enterprise -factor there, Katadder. Cloaked ships operate until emissions control, it's pretty blatantly stated in at least one episode of TNG that I can think of - that one where Troi pretends to be Romulan. The commander of the Warbird talks about emissions betrayin...

I never really followed that logic. Why is it easier to say "The Demos is overpowered, make it 3 more points" than saying "The Demos is overpowered, knock 4ADs off the main weapon"? Because changing the points value is faster and easier to playtest? Because changing the points value doesn't change ...

Yes, but IMO it requires too much suspension of disbelief. "Oh my ship just happens to be directly behind you, facing up your exhaust pipe"... it might be fair and balanced and just like a jump point, but it isn't believable - to me, at least. It's totally believable in the source material though. ...

problem with that is it removes the whole decloak attack, cloak, decloak, attack tactic of klinks and roms. which is why I tried to come up with something for cloaking again but without the whole secret movement thing. it could be that once cloaked you disengage but did try to take it a little furt...

No. No, no, no. You cannot detect and fire on a cloaked ship unless it's malfunctioning or you're the Enterprise . Cloaking should work as Katadder describes (pretty much spot on for a turn-based game) but I'd change recloaking to simply removing the ship from the table as a disengage. Like the Shad...

Star Trek Armada - loved it - many a happy hour spent in mass destruction and fun campaigns- if all that was availabe as a minis game as well - be equally enjoyable.........plenty of cool ships and abilites there. Almost none of which was remotely accurate... Still, some of the "new" ship classes w...

A decent Star Trek tabletop game would be great, but I fear a huge lack of accuracy. There's plenty of published information saying what each ship is capable of, but none of the computer game developers have got it right - with the possible exception of those behind A Final Unity from back in the da...

Battlefleet Gothic still has a vibrant fan community and people continue to play the game long after it got "specialised" and, as far as I'm aware, killed off entirely. I gave it up long ago simply because I have no players, but I still have my stuff and could still play it. The same will no doubt ...

In First Contact a taskforce of 20-30 ships just about defeated a Borg Cube through raw firepower. I'd say that's far from being silly. 8472 ships are even more powerful as you say but for a Borg vs. 8472 encounter, that may just about be possible... Either way - they wouldn't be intended as common...

There's no way either the Borg or 8472 could be included and maintain any claim to accuracy of any sort. An entire Starfleet taskforce can't stop a single Borg vessel by brute firepower, only the plot-powered Enterprise/Voyager crew could do it. Same for 8472, they slaughter the Borg in ship combat,...
