Re: Technology Marches On: Rail Guns

Thats not what most people think of rail guns these days. These days, a railgun is a pair of electromagnetic "rails" that accelerates a magnetic projectile to dangerously high speeds. In scifi games with gravity technology, the rails might be based upon gravity to accelerate any projectile instead o...

Re: How many armed ships are there in your setting?

Plus you are quoting price for a brand new weapon. You should be able to pick one up used for much less. Are there rules for buying stuff used? So what do y'all consider "Basic" weapons? My thoughts were a single turret Missile Rack or Pulse Laser (retconned to deal 2d6 damage in High Guard). Both ...

Re: Using SRD to create own game

Have fun. By the way, I tend to think that low berths are cryostasis tech. Its not like the game is too attached to modern day science, so I wouldn't worry about scientific accuracy. Feel free to ignore me on this. As for staterooms, maybe come up with something for additional life support systems (...

Re: Ship Gear - Missing Details

The errata, you guys mean this thing? http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pdf/travhighguarderrata.pdf It doesn't cover everything that appears to be missing (like damage caused by Ortillery missiles), but I'll keep it mind if I'm missing something. Also, I suspected that Heavy Missiles and Torpedos we...

Ship Gear - Missing Details

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed missing details for ship gear? I've recently tried to sort things out by putting information from several books (core rulebook, high guard, trillion credit squadron) into a spread sheet. I'm finding that there are missing bits of information that I can't seem...

Re: How many armed ships are there in your setting?

Installing a basic weapon isn't too too expensive. A basic weapon can cost less than a million Cr (including the turret). I've checked the core rulebook and I haven't seen a ship in there that costs less than 10 mil, not even small craft. If you have enough money to own a ship, then it shouldn't cos...

Re: Need help with new campaign ideas

Some more thoughts. Don't force the players to try to do everything on the list you made. You can allow them the opportunity to do many things, but it helps if a game has focus. They might end up only wanting to do 1 or 2 things, with the occasional distraction. As for technology, this world sounds ...

Re: Need help with new campaign ideas

This topic does interest me, but I haven't read enough books for Mongoose Traveller to be really helpful... yet. That said, I'm pretty sure I know which books I need to read. Anyways, I don't think that Jump-2 would be mandatory. A ship can carry enough fuel to make multiple jumps, and you could alw...

Re: Need help with new campaign ideas

Just checking to make sure that I understand things. The players are going to be from a lost world (isolated from the rest of the galaxy). That they are going to discover that there is life out there. So their objectives are going to be trying to figure out how to ensure that their world survives? A...

Re: Improving Characteristics

I did some searching (since I knew of a few examples) of things where a single point increase to a characteristic would be valuable. I figured it would make the ability to raise characteristic more valuable if each small increase had rewards. This was a quick search through the book, so I don't expe...

Re: Improving Characteristics

I made a quick and dirty rule for improving characteristics based upon the rules for improving skills during play (see p. 59). Essentially, you improve characteristics the same way you would to raise skills, you determine your character's characteristic total is determined by adding all characterist...

Considering that this game has anti aging drugs, Anagathics (see p. 94), that might actually be a real possibility.

Nothing? I figured as much as I couldn't find it. Strange that it isn't covered.

Oh well, thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Improving Characteristics

Hi, I'm new around here. I've been reading Mongoose Traveller on and off for a while now, but there is something I haven't been able to find an answer for, improving characteristics. Pardon me if this was answered elsewhere, but I've gone through 10+ pages of forum threads here (and read a lot of th...
