After listening to some songs by Bal-Sagoth, I had the idea to look-up some titles for a good name. After looking through Bal-Sagoth, REH, and Lovecraft titles, I came up with these: - Altar of the Dreaming Gods - House of Om - Out of the Æons - Silent Chambers of the Sapphirean Throne - Dreamer in...

That would be a great idea! It could be aimed at all S&S games out there, regardless of systems. I could see sections for Conan, Slaine, Stormbringer. The only problem is, administration might take some time. It's something I would have done myself in the past, but I have not enough free time.

I know the world is not perfect in game or RL, so these humble, weaker types will exsist, just seems to me, the whole of the Civilsed world would be 95% Commoners, not much of a force against Tribes of Barbarians! Exactly. Even a 1st level barbarian should be a terrible adversary for a Commoner of ...

Don't stop at the averages, consider the full spectrum of attainable hit points. The Dock Worker might have Con 18, max hit points per level, and perhaps the Toughness feat. So, an "expert" dock worker (2nd level) might have a whopping 16hps, and if you add the Toughness feat, they become 18hps. The...

With a 10 level class, the standard commoner is already quite though in my experience. And unrealistically so, I would add. I never allow more than 2nd or 3rd level commoners in my games. Anything beyond that really stretches verisimilitude.

Just a note: the spellpoint system was not used in D&D because the latter was based on a well-known literary precedent, i.e. the Dying Earth novels by Jack Vance.

This is what I have used for my games, and it worked perfectly well. They allow the definition of different character archetypes. New skills for Barbarians and Knights Barbarians This is a revised skill list for Barbarians; in parenthesis the minimum rank to acquire the skill is shown. Track (1), Ri...

While you can't simulate the "real world" with d20 (nor with GURPS at that) you can surely put a cap to limit the "heroic-ness" of characters. This is a perfectly valid view (regardless of game system, actually) and in d20 it works quite well if you stop at around 7th level, or even 10th level if yo...

Those essays are very nice and thought provoking; I had read them a few years ago, and they proved quite useful at the table. Another interesting fact: If you convert a character from Basic Roleplaying (Call of Cthulhu for example) a maximally proficient character with skills around 99% translates t...

Clovenhoof: I am very suspicious of basing class comparisons on one on one duels. This is a cooperative game: the question is not "would the barbarian or soldier win" its "can they both contribute to a party or would we be better off with 2 barbarians (or 2 soldiers)?". My experience, which does no...

Using Conan RPG in Judge's Guild Wilderlands setting. I made some house rules, but for the most part just converted the existing cultures using Conan-like races. NPCs are pretty easy to convert. Nice. What about monsters and magic items? The Wilderlands assumed the standard D&D-type monsters and ma...

I think it was Black Company I was looking at, and Trailblazer, too, that suggested using a character's CON score as a sort of "life's blood" for characters. Hit points would work normally, but once you reached 0 HP, instead of dying, they character has this reserve of life's blood--his CON score. ...

d20 Conan for other S&S milieux

Did anyone use d20 Conan for other S&S campaigns? If so, did you apply some modifications? I was thinking about a campaign set in Kull's times, and I could probably adapt the Conan races. For example: - Atlanteans -> Cimmerians - Picts -> Picts - Valusians -> Hyborians etc. The classes would remain ...

OK, so when you multi-class for the first time, how many skill points do you get? I'm thinking that you probably don't get the massive amounts you do at first level. For example, a 5th level Barbarian multiclasses into a Soldier. So, on that level, does the Barbarian 5/Soldier 1 character get (2 + ...

Great stories, everyone! I was introduced to RPGs by computer games, namely Ultima IV on the Atari ST. More or less at the same time I discovered the Conan stories (though I had seen the Conan film before) and one year later my first table-top RPG: Mentzer's edited Dungeons & Dragons, Red Box. Brill...

Wheel of Time rpg is quite good. It includes both the setting and the rules in one book. It's also based on the 3.0 rules set, so it's somewhat "lighter" than the other d20 games (including d20 Conan). Another good game is Call of Cthulhu d20. It's the closest to a classless system you can get with...

Thank you for the information! I would take the books off Amazon, since they are at half price w.r.t. the moongose website, but it's hard to tell which printing it is. :?
